@SleepyMaya @simsplayer818 @daikoyu and anyone else seeing this issue, could you provide a bit more information? For example, what events other than the weenie roast are affected? Is the vegetarian sim the host, or is a non-vegetarian sim hosting, and in either case, is the host doing the cooking?
Even if the party goal lists a meat dish, does the goal complete when a sim makes the vegetarian equivalent? If not, please have your sim try making the meat dish just in case the task isn't completing for some other reason; you don't need to save your progress.
- simsplayer8183 years agoHero@puzzlezaddict I can't get into my game for crashing in order to test it but if memory serves for me it's when my vegetarian Sim is hosting a social event or completing the Outdoor Enthusiast Aspiration they are required to cook meat/beetles. I've not tried the weenie roast for a vegetarian Sim.
It's also when I'm at the Spice Festival eating with a group of people, vegetarian Sim friends get the meat based meals and start to look a bit peaky and weepy. - daikoyu3 years agoSeasoned Ace
I test the weenie roast event with a vegetarian/non vegetarian sim in a vanilla game and can confirm that tofu-hotdog count as goal (grilling and campfire). Was the campfire always so terrible in a vanilla game? This thing caused 3 fires in one event!
I only can confirm @simsplayer818 statement that sims ignore they food/allergies preference sometime in spice-event. After my *vegan* sim issue I never used this both traits again for my played sims. Generally, two traits slot are too much sacrifice with only 3 slots per sim available. I really wish they would give is a food dislike/like category. Would make things so much easier... as long they ignore food which they do not like.
Btw: the default recipe of marshmallow is not vegetarian safe because most use gelatine, so it doesn’t make any difference if it beetles of marshmallow, both are dishes who use ingredients from animals (a dead animal) and so not suitable for vegetarian sims

I'm not sure how the veggie hot dog counted towards the goal for daikoyu on weenie roast, but I tested it and it 100% DIDN'T count towards the goal for me, I was forced to cook the meat ones, that's the main thing that got me to write this post to begin with. Maybe it's related to the outdoor expansion I have? Otherwise I'm not sure but it didn't count the veggie one and it did count the meat one, so the game was working but only for the meat dishes.
As for the other events these requirements were on, I can't recall them all specifically because I already maxed the aspiration with the many party requirements which is where I noticed it, I did a lot of parties in a row for the aspiration on two sims and kept switching between party types so it's hard to remember all of the specifics, but at the very least there was one that required me to cook some chicken dish (can't remember which but it had the word chicken in it) and one that required a casserole. For both of those I tried the vegetarian option first and it DIDN'T count towards the goal, so I was then forced to do the meat one or not get gold. There might have been another case with a lobster dish but I can't remember for sure. I can confirm that in all of those, cooking that meat dish DID count towards the goal, only the vegetarian ones didn't.
At least one case where it happened was the black and white party (I remember that because I was confused why it counts as black and white lol), not sure about the others. It wasn't the main goal so it's not a requirement that is always there (except for the weenie roast case where it is the main goal), so if I did the same party multiple times it wouldn't have the meat requirements on all cases, it's kind of random, but it is there sometimes.
All of my sims are vegetarian and I don't hire other sims to cook, so both the host and the people cooking were always vegetarian and were still required for it.
Also I'll respectfully disagree with daikoyu that there is no difference between beetles and marshmallow, in my opinion there is a huge difference between the two. Marshmallow contains gelatine in most common recipes, that's true, but there are still a lot of recipes where it's 100% vegan and those are still titled the exact same name, "marshmallow" (kinda similar to gummy candy). I know at least a few brands of it where it's pretty much regular marshmallow just without gelatine and marked vegan, it's not the most common but it's not too uncommon either, at least where I live and on multiple countries I got to visit. In the sims we don't get to see a full ingredients list for each dish, so it could easily be treated as either vegan/vegetarian or not, there wouldn't be much difference in terms of the game cause we don't know the exact recipe sims are using for it and in both cases the meal would have an identical name and just be called "marshmallow", so really we could see it how we want to. Beetles however can't be treated as vegetarian ever, they are always 100% animal made, even if you can't read an "ingredients list". So in my opinion I don't think this is really the same, one is at least sometimes vegan and suitable, while the other is always animal made and never suitable.

@SleepyMaya I'm curious about the discrepancy too. Do you use any mods? If so, please test without them; you can use a new save if you want.
If you don't use mods, or removing them doesn't make a diffrence, please list the packs you currently have installed. Please also test in a new save, for comparison's sake.
