PC build recommendations please!

I have been running Sims 4 on my MacBook for years now and want to upgrade to a PC for better gaming experiences 😄

Any recommendations of the best PC desktop to buy to be able to run all available expansions on the highest settings? Currently running everything in low and it really does ruin the game! 😩

Based in UK! Thanks so much!

  • @JodiScarlett  Do you have a budget in mind, and does that budget include a monitor?  Would you prefer something cheap and good enough, or more expensive and somewhat futureproofed or upgradable, for example a custom build?

@puzzlezaddict Thank you 😊 budget is around £400-£600 for just the computer, already have a monitor, keyboard and mouse.

I think something more future proof would suit better! A custom build like you said.

@JodiScarlett  Honestly, your options are going to be pretty limited even at £600.  A custom build might be possible, but it's not necessarily going to include better components than a prebuilt model, or else you'd have to make sacrifices with respect to the current hardware.

As an example of a good option for £600, this one should run all Sims 4 packs together on ultra graphics settings, now and likely for the entire run of the game.  It may not be particularly upgradable though: you could add more RAM, but the power supply might be too weak to support a better graphics card down the line.  On the other hand, PSUs are themselves not overly expensive, so it's not like you'd have zero options.

This is an example of a cheap custom build that would be set up for upgrades in the future.  The hardware would be weaker than the one above, at least for the same price, but it does have a better motherboard and a power supply that should support a graphics card upgrade in the future.  I can go over the selectable components with you if you want; just ask.

I can check other sites, but prices are usually somewhat higher, for example I wouldn't expect to see the first one for under £700 except on sale.  If you do want me to look  further though, or you just have more questions, please feel free to ask.
