Pet population explosion?

It appears that some NPC households are adopting unspayed and unneutered pets, which are having a lot of kittens and puppies. I also suspect this might have happened in some of my own unplayed households, but an uncertain whether it happened before or after I marked them played. For example, the Heckings (whom I am not playing) adopted a second dog and now have four, counting two new puppies. I rotated into one household I created to play them for the very first time to find the single cat in labor. It was the first household in the entire rotation, too, [Wait, no, they were second... and the first house didn't have a pet...  --edit] but I did end up taking a completely different pet to the vet while I was setting up and you know how, when you take one pet to the vet, every pet you have in every household is there… so at first I thought it was that and somehow they’d had a kitty fling at the vet, but I keep finding kittens in my played households.

 Is this by design?

If it includes played households, well. I got out of the habit of making them spayed/neutered in CAS during the bug where that did nothing and you just have to CAS.fulleditmode un-fix then and go do it through gameplay, but if my other rotational household pets are going to litter when I’m not playing them even though their humans can’t do anything without me, I might need an extended CAS.fulleditmode session.

[Edit: It was fairly easy to go into Manage Worlds, go to Manage Households, and edit each household of mine that has a pet and set EVERY pet to fixed. That said, um, I haven't gone in and done that to unplayed households, and some of those are looking a little wild...]

Generally, I read NS is too aggressive if you play long lifespan or with aging off. I really thought cats and dogs are result of adopt and not because pet get pregnant from other pets. // You sure its not from MCC? I know MCC make pets pregnant and this rather aggressive if you don’t play the family + don’t edit the default settings //

I know pets can get pregnant if they run away and not sprayed (only CAS solution work, Vet spraying never worked for me) but here you need to play this family active.

Edit: If this so I will definitely don’t touch discuss expend family with random sims. I don’t want that my not sprayed pets can have kids without my input.

  • @xochiquetzl_xkvn I'd reccomend turning off the ability to adopt pets for unplayed households (which can be done using the configure button in the magange household seciton) and then either deleting the pets already there or neutering them

    Delete????  *facepalm*

    Yes, I know they're just pixels.  😉

I hate to turn off the ability to adopt pets because it's super cute, but it's quite true that Brent and Brant might need an intervention.....  😉

I'm really more concerned about my OWN played households. If my household is marked played, I feel like my pets shouldn't be getting pregnant without me.  I have Neighborhood stories turned completely OFF for my played households and on (except for leave/join career because I don't want error code 0 can't save) for unplayed households. Since I'm using my personal starter save, with my "greatest hit" Sims from my favorite saves past as townies, they were marked unplayed briefly but it's now Winter and I've been playing since spring in 4 week seasons, so... yikes. (I did go in and fix all my own pets in CAS.fulleditmode.)

I mean, I'm a little 0.o at the other households, but since I used to use MCCC story progression I'm used to 8 Sim households sharing a single 1 bedroom apartment in San Myshuno while single adults live in 5 bedroom mansions, so unless I have a reason to interfere I generally let that be.

@xochiquetzl_xkvn Maybe instead of turing it off for everyone, you could chose a some households to turn it off for and leave it on for the others to help slow down the pet invasion and I totally agree that played households shouldn't have pets getting pregnant autonimously without the player

@Idiosyncratic53  Yeah, I'm really wondering how that happened. How aggressive are the pet options, anyway? Sims who have cat lover/dog lover seem to be more likely to go overboard, which makes sense. Brent is a dog lover, after all, and it looks like Catarina Lynx has completely filled all her household slots, which is honestly just kind of funny and in-character.  :D

But really, my played households... is it aggressive enough that having them marked unplayed for a few Sim hours resulted in at least 3 pet pregnancies so far? Or did taking a cat to the vet while setting up households cause all those pet pregnancies as NPC gameplay while I was distracted by trying to get a cat's illness taken care of, or happening in the background while I was getting a dog spayed in a played household? (I know I saw my pets from other households but don't remember if I saw those specific pets.) Or is pet pregnancy something covered by Neighborhood Stories, not something that comes up on your mailbox, and perhaps not bypassing your played households properly? I honestly don't know.

I do suspect I'm an edge case, FWIW. I'm rotating with some of my "greatest hits" old Sims and Maxis townies, and... I don't think they expected people to do precisely what I'm doing...

@xochiquetzl_xkvn I will say that I have the option on and despite having hours of playtime on rotation I am yet to have it cause a pet pregnancy in any household so it seems more likely a bug than anything else

    @Idiosyncratic53

Well, too, the way I know it's pet pregnancy rather than adoption, aside from the first case of rotating in to find a cat in labor, is toggling selectable pets (using Twisted Mexi's allcheats) and looking at the genealogy (yes, the genealogy shows for pets, too, that way!). So it's possible that there are more than it appears, and people assume that Brent and Brant adopted another adult dog and two puppies, for example...

    That first one:

Game:  Turtle and Ninja had twins!

Me: What the Heck game Turtle lives in Willow Creek and Ninja is all the way in Brindleton Bay!

    LOL

    [Edit]

Okay, I popped in without saving, and:

    The Heckings.  ROTFL

They adopted two adult dogs, but "dog" has no puppies.

    Rosie had two:

    Next up, Catarina Lynx.  ROTFL:

And now, one of my played households:

The situation is worse than it appears.  😉  That Fox is male and has sired puppies who don't live with us:

Ninja and his babies in Willow Creek (who don't live with us, either, but live with another of my households):

Missy had 3, and they all live with us:

    https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/735942485385412660/958134915252232242/unknown.png

They have two different fathers, but my rotational households are set to only age while being played, so... one is by Mayor Whiskers...

    https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/735942485385412660/958135168768552960/unknown.png

The other two are by a cat from yet another of my played households.

    TL;DR: DEFINITELY pet pregnancies!

I’ve never had this issue with MCCC before, but I’ll definitely check!

[edit] Okay, so, since I’m compulsive I save my entire Sims folder in 3 places every night after I play, with a script. One of those places is a NAS where I can roll back to 3/14 if I want to (2 weeks). I just read and found several—not all, but several—of these pet pregnancies in mc_cmd_center.txt, a log file in the MCCC mod folder. It specifically mentioned pets from my played households on the 13th and the 19th.

As such, I’m willing to declare Neighborhood Stories not guilty! I’m turning that off and if I get more pregnancies later I’ll reconsider. 😉

[Edit: There doesn't seem to be a "bypass played household" switch under pet pregnancies in MC Pregnancy. Spay and neuter your pets, y'all! 😉 ]

Thanks for feedback, I was already afraid that I would need cancel my plans for discuss expend family. Now no random family will be save from my supersim! They will get her random pet! (And we don’t talk about this *human babys* if you got this output, they simply never exist)

Annnnnnd, one of the pets I marked "fixed" in CAS went into heat, so I had to un-spay her in CAS and spay her through the vet. Good times!

(No kittens, though, so my MCCC settings must be right...)
