Pick up unowned items

I have moved my family to another house and I forgot to put my children’s baby print in the inventory. Now I came back to the old house and it says I don’t own the item. I tried to move another family in to the house and pick it up but it still says they don’t own the item.

Is there any way I can get it back?

  • @iasmimalves Sadly no, unless you can go back to an old save file before the move, and do it all over again and remember to take the print with you.

If you have Get Together, you can create a club with the swipe objects activity and see if you can steal the baby print. You can remove the activity or disband the club after.

If not, create a friend with the kleptomaniac trait, send them over to steal it, and then have the friend gift it to your Sims.

Also, if you have Realm of Magic, a spellcaster with the Burgliate spell can take it.

(Item ownership can be vexing in this game. I hate it when my rotational families leave their belongings lying around.)

There is a way to get the item owned again if you can get the item into a sim's inventory by dragging.  If you can, you can use the Gift option in the Friendly>Affection menu to gift it from one sim to another.  The item will become owned by the receiving sim.  I have not tried it with baby prints or photos, but it does work for the collectibles.

    Hope this helps.

  • I agree with @CGrant56's idea. You should be able to play the people in the old house and put the item in their personal inventory. Have the Sim visit the family it belongs to and gift it or just open their inventory and leave it in the new house. Ta Da!

  • @CGrant56 I tried this but I can’t drag it to the inventory. I logged in the owner of the house’s family and still couldn’t drag it. I tried that several times ugh

Well, if you can't drag it into the inventory then it's become detached from the sim who originally owned it.  So, since it has, it can be deleted in build mode if you want to do that since it doesn't belong to the current family in that house.  If you want one for the home of the sim that left it behind, you can probably get one from the debug items in the build catalog if you're willing to go to the trouble.  The one you get from debug won't be attached to your sim and won't give you any mouse over message of who's print it is, or be able to be put in a sim's inventory but you can at least have one on the wall.  You'll have to use the debug unlock cheat to get the debug items to show in the build buy catalog though and it might take you a while to find it there as there are hundreds of debug items.  You can't really effectively search them either so that means going through the catalog one row at the time until you find it.  It'll act just like a painting or wall mounted item in the catalog and can only be moved, etc. in build mode.

    Hope this helps.

I'm so sorry you lost the items. I know it's not fun to lose items you felt defined the family growing together.
