I assume that you can't log in China not because of Origin blocking a connection, but Chinese government blocking it. There were plenty of users from China who played TS4 (the one that I remember from the top of my mind is custom content creator SLYD). I assume they use VPN for this. This is how people in China view youtube and other blocked websites. But I am not entirely sure that it is safe to use it there. You can for sure use VPN and Origin together if it's only for playing the game.

Thanks, this is so old post as I've never logged in for so long.

Just an update for this issue: There's no blocking from nobody now. I can launch the game fine without VPN. (EA app shows pricing in HK dollar)
