Problem with CAS

After picking a saved game, the loading screen appears and stays on forever... 15+ minutes. I was frustrated, and tried all the solutions I could find online. Ultimately, I decided to just start off fresh by uninstalling and reinstalling again.

Since then, the problem still occurs. On the clean game, after I am prompted to create a character to start a CAS, and press the "check" to move them in... the eternal loading screen appears. Music is still playing, plumbbob is still spinning... this just goes on forever. No saves, nothing.

I play vanilla (no mods or CC). I have all the DLC. I have done uninstalled/reinstalled. I have repaired the game. I have moved my TS4 files to the desktop in order for the game to regenerate new files and the error still occurs. I have manually reset the EA app. I have turned off EA Background Services.

I'm on 2022 MacBook Pro running Sequoia 15.1.1, Apple M2, 8 GB memory, and have about 93 GB of storage available and use the cloud. I have the game installed on an external hard drive, but this hasn't caused an issue before. The game is updated as well. Any suggestions?

Edit - edited title to better reflect issue (Bluebellflora)

  • BluebellfloraI discovered what the issue was! Even after clearing my internal hard drive to 90 GB of free space, the game didn't work. Turns out that the "recommended 50 GB of free space on hard drive" is still not enough if someone has all the DLC installed. I followed your tutorial of creating a symlink to my 5TB external hard drive and now my game runs smoothly. Thank you so much!

If you turn off the wifi on your Mac does it still happen?

Instead of moving some TS4 files to the desktop, move the whole folder so a new one is generated in the Documents > Electronic Arts folder.

Thanks for responding @Bluebellflora . Sorry I didn't specify in the original message. I moved the whole folder to the desktop so it would create a whole new TS4 folder.

Also, just tried turning off the WiFi and it's still stuck on that loading screen for quite a long time after leaving CAS. I did notice that my personal gallery shows duplicates of the family I created. Right now, I'm just using June Kay since she's the first premade sim in my gallery. This must mean that the household is being saved, but it's struggling with leaving CAS and moving the created family into the world...?

Is it just taking a long time since I have all the DLC installed? It's never taken longer than 5 minutes before prior to this last update. This is a totally clean game, and my system meets all the requirements so I'm not sure what's going on...

It doesn't sound like an installation issue. When you refer to your personal gallery are you referring to the Library or the online Gallery? Your Library shouldn't have any of your content in it because you moved the Sims 4 folder to the desktop and the game created a new one. Your Tray folder (where the Library files are saved) should be empty.

@Bluebellflora Thank you for your response.

I meant just my private library, so I apologize for misusing the terms. I had been trying for multiple times and the loading screen takes forever. The multiple copies of June Kay in my personal library was just the multiple attempts at starting a game.

For the sake of trying again, I moved the whole Sims 4 folder back to the desktop from My Documents since I have nothing to lose. My game is completely clean and wiped out anyway. However, after trying again, quitting the tutorial in CAS and using June Kay from my personal library to replace the family... It's after I click the checkmark to confirm the family that it leads to a loading screen... and it's just stuck and has been stuck on the loading screen for 20+min now...

It's a little frustrating, because I just reinstalled everything... any suggestions?

I don't understand how you quit the tutorial in CAS and used a Sim from your Library when the only option to add a sim you haven't made yourself in CAS is from the online Gallery. But it's entirely possible I'm missing something as I spend as little time in CAS as possible. BUT, I would suggest you forget June Kay for the moment and try to create your own Sim in CAS and see if you can successfully move them to a Lot and play.

I'm moving your thread to the Game Issues forum for now for better troubleshooting with in-game issues as I don't currently believe your problem is a Mac tech issue.

@Bluebellflora Sorry it's been a hot minute. I've attempted to troubleshoot on my own to try to see the cause of the situation.

I deleted my "The Sims 4" folder again just to see if things would work with a regenerated folder. I did try your advice and just randomly generated a sim and that worked... for a moment. I busied myself with other things and the game finally loaded. I randomly created a sim and was able to successfully move them into a house. Then, I went into "Manage Neighborhood (or whatever, I forget... but simply to change the active family to a different one). After saving two Sim days in one save, I attempted to go back to the main menu since I wanted to start a different save. This is when things got funky.

The loading screen took forever again. I also discovered when I went to Mission Control on my Mac, there were a bunch of "The Sims 4" desktops opened. I'm not sure if this is a normal thing, but this is something I have never noticed before. Because of the loading screen taking forever, I decided to troubleshoot again by removing the "The Sims 4" folder and slowly adding things back in starting with my saves. It appears my saves are the issue... every single save. I tried removing the saves and then replacing the backup versions by deleting "ver0" extension, as recommended by Crinrict's Sims 4 Help Blog. I did this for every single back-up. I also tried everything from the second paragraph again, and it appears that every single save I create is corrupt, which must mean the saving process is faulty... right? It's like no matter what I do, every save isn't able to open and it just makes my gameplay lag indefinitely. You were right in that this is a gameplay issue.

Does this mean I'm forever doomed to just single-play games without ever having any saves? This hasn't been an issue before until a few months ago after I updated my system, added more packs, and updated my game. Is this because of Mac OS updates, or faulty TS4 updates? I feel really at a loss here. I've tried looking at solutions for file save corruptions, but it seems like the most common cause of this is CC or mods, but I play a completely vanilla game on purpose because I don't want any corruptions...

I really don't know what's wrong... I've cleared cache. I've regenerated The Sims 4 folder a bunch of times to troubleshoot the issues. I've cleared saves since I have nothing. I've repaired the files. I don't play with mods or custom content. I've played in offline mode. I've checked and cleared that my system and game are up-to-date and met the minimum requirements. I've checked to see if any anti-virus programs are blocking my applications and there are none. Both EA and The Sims 4 are program exceptions. I've even changed it top "Laptop Mode" and that has not made a difference. I am currently in the process of reinstalling the game, since after repairing game and deleting "The Sims 4" folder from my drive to generate a new one and playing in offline mode, the game did not load at all.

Update: It's still stuck on loading screen with music playing after leaving CAS to start a new game AFTER a fresh reinstall. I really don't know what to do anymore.

Update 1/4: This issue has morphed into the issue of not being able to open any saves. I am not sure I described the issue well in this post, so I made a different one with a clearer explanation of what is actually occurring.
