Since it has always worked liked that I'm sure this works as intended. Just like in real life you can't help what mood your guests arrive in you can just try to handle it (which is usually very simple like I wrote) or you can ask them to leave and with the resent change to how this works you can do so with no ill effects.
A gamer should not have to deal with handle it this way to fix the problem yourself, I would rather knowing why some of my sims are upset , sad or even bored.
Switching to their household show no issue with them, it's like a hidden mood swing that kick in for no reason, it's like my sims can't even invite their family and friends over for a simple house party to handle things normally without worry what mood swing is going to kick in.
Often I use groups to keep my sims under control but that shouldn't have to happen to keep sims acting right while in one room or using a happy game cheat before they enter the house.
Some show up pissed or bored and even sad for no reason.

How do you tell a Sim that you don't control to focus? The correct interaction for someone you don't control is "Try to calm down" or "cheer up" if sad. It is not a mood swing they arrive in that mood whether invited or self invited. Just like in the real world something might have happened at home, work or on the way to your house.
If "try to calm down" does not work I would suspect a mod to be the cause.

@jpkarlsenSims are not real characters and they will act in the way they are programed to act, trying to calm a sim only make my sim upset and I'm not going there with another sim. I have two male sims who are very high in yoga and anytime a sim would arrive to their home upset , scared or sad , I would have one of my male sims tell them to relax and focus and that worked. Sims are programmed to the way the environment is setup and some areas they don't react to like snake crawling on the grass in jungle adventure. All games have hidden triggers to cause them to arrive to the house upset even if there is nothing wrong. I have a few sims who are always scared of water and I know who they are and I understand if they show up at the house upset how to calm them down and I help them increase their yoga skills which have helped them not running around freaking out.
I have no clue way people always assume every players have mods in their game, I don't have mods in my game. The last sims game I put mods in was the sims 2 and the sim 3.
It's the game and not a mod - jpkarlsen4 years agoHero (Retired)
You mention a Sim getting more upset by using "try to calm down" and since I can't replicate that in a mod free game I of course suspect a mod to be the cause but you say you don't have any so must be something else. I don't see why you won't test with another sim as nothing permanent will happen.
For the issue with being afraid of water there is a bug report for that. https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/NEEDS-SAVES-IL-Tense-moodlets-from-Thalassophobia-when-not-near/td-p/9283184 please click Me Too on the first posting.

But too many other players jump the gun assuming other players have mods in their games and that become a issue that never get fixed in the game. As I mention to you before there is not a Mod in my game , I would rather not have Mods in my game for the sims 4 because I prefer that gameplay for my sims 4 game.
