Re: sims 4 crashing April 2024

@jordycole914

You don't just delete mods that you suspect are causing a problem. You should remove all of your Mods, trash the localthumbcache.packge file then load up the game to check it is working vanilla. You then quit the game and add your mods back in in small batches, testing the game after adding each batch. Once it stops working again you know the problem is in that batch. Remove the batch, trash the localthumbcache file again, then test each mod in the bad batch individually.

    Hey, thanks for your guidance. I did the beginning steps that you instructed me to do and the game crashed when I was trying to run it "vanilla." I am uncertain what I should do from here...

    Hi @jordycole914 . Since you're having issues without mods/CC, I'm going to move you to the Game Issues forum. Check the pinned posts there as well.

    Please could you copy/paste the contents of the latest lastCrash file in your Sims 4 folder here?

    Could you also move or rename the Sims 4 folder and then try to launch the game.

    When I moved my Sims 4 folder, the game ran smoothly and did not crash, but unfortunately that means that I was running on an entirely new save file.

    Yep but it’s testing whether your problem is a game installation issue (it isn’t) or a user data issue (it is). Move just one one of the saves into the newly created Sims 4 > saves folder and see if it works.

    I ran all other saves but they were all just blank new game saves, all of those seemed to run smoothly though. I only have one save with my previous game saved and that is the one that I had issues with crashing when trying to run it.

    My game keeps crashing too, but I've managed to pin it down to something specific: When I try to build or edit anything close to the edge of one specific lot. I don't have any CC installed, and I built this very house yesterday, so something seems to have happened with today's update that causes the game to crash. I can edit other lots without any issue, but this particular one that I built yesterday, suddenly crashes today.

    I'm not sure what you mean by rolling back to a previous version of the broken save. I'm not sure what I should be looking for on the link that you provided.

    I do have a time machine backup that I might be able to utilize. I will see if I can test that out.

    Ok, update - The recovered save file does the same crashing thing but I think I found what the issue - I would click resume game where my last played sim was and my game would crash but as soon as I clicked load game and clicked my last played household, it loaded. I just test played it and it did not crash!
