Hi, i save the same way as you, manual save then exit to menu without saving and if you haven't done any extra gameplay between saving manually and then exiting the game (creating the auto save) then your game should be exactly where you left it when you manually saved so loading the autosave or the manual save should load both at the same point you left your gameplay. Personally for me I never use the resume game feature, I play on PlayStation and find my console is louder for longer when I resume a save but that's just personal preference 🙂
