are you using oneDrive ? If so, it's possible that the game switched to there.
If you check the saves folder in Documents on your local drive and your oneDrive, are any of them from a newer date ?
I can check my local drive and it does have recent dates on there, but for some reason I can't access my oneDrive. I never use it so I'm not sure how it would have switched there

if you can't access it it's probably not active and the issue lies elsewhere.

In all honesty, it still might be my oneDrive. I have it turned off but it will turn itself back on every once and awhile. I just can't access it right now, not sure why.
The folder my game uses is just the classic "Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4" folder.

If you check the dates on the ingame menu, do they match the ones in your folder ?
Did you save the game on this old status ? Do you have the could for steam on ? Maybe that sync something badly ? I'm not sure if it actually works or not.
