Sim can't watch wall mounted TV

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.60.54.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? - Seasons - Discover University - City Living - Laundry Day Stuff
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I'm not sure you can - it appears to only be happening on one of my saves
What happens when the bug occurs? Whenever I tell my sim to watch TV, they act like they can't path to it (get the little speech bubble above their head etc) - but there's no pathing issue (that I can see)
What do you expect to see? My sim watching the tv
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

I've tried moving the tv up and down the wall but it doesn't seem to make a difference. However, moving it one space to the left makes it work fine. I've also tried deleting and rebuying the tv - none of the wall-mounted tvs seem to work.

Originally I thought the fireplace was causing issues (hence why its missing in the second image) but it's not that.

I know there was a patch a couple of days ago but I'm not sure if that's what caused it because I only moved my sim into the house today. I've tried an identical configuration in a different house on a different save and there are no problems, appears to only be in that specific spot. I've restarted the game, and my laptop, but it didn't make any difference. I haven't restored to factory settings, but only because the problem is only happening in one save.

I've scoured the internet and can't seem to find this happening to anyone else - I'm beginning to lose the will to live!

  • @1smalllamp  In the picture with the fireplace, it may be an object on the mantle causing it.  Did you try to watch TV without the objects sitting on the mantle?  My first though when I looked at the picture was the bust statue may be interfering.

Another thing it could be is if you placed an object with MOO on.  So if you did, that may be it.

In the picture without the fireplace, I see stairs behind the wall that the TV is on.  And just by the way they work, they protrude into walls.  I have had instances where things protruding in the wall block things on the other side of the wall although it's usually been something else, not stairs, but it's probably worth looking at anyway.  I has one case where a Barfy doll I had placed at an angle protruded into the wall and blocked the stairs on the other side.  So did you try deleting the stairs and see if you can watch TV?

Finally, since the walls are down, is there anything else mounted on the wall?  Remote possibility at best but you never know.  You might want to look at the other side of the wall too to see if anything on that side could be causing the problem.

  • @1smalllamp I'm moving this to GD for further discussion. Seems to be something about your setup and not a general bug.

Could you upload your house to the Gallery and post the name here ? Also which lot you placed it on.
  • Thanks for the responses! Your comment about the gallery reminded me I had it saved there before I started noticing the bug, so I tried placing the house in another lot and didn't have any problems. Interestingly, if I bulldozed the original build and placed the copy from the gallery back down in the same spot, I still had the same issue. Seems to be something up with that lot (I built on top of Umbrage Manor in Willow Creek). Anyway, hopefully whatever the problem was has been sorted just by moving lots. Thanks so much for you help!

  • It's called Bridgeport! My username is the same on here (clearly a few of us found the same house online and built it hahaha)

    Thank you 🙂

@1smalllamp I tested that on the Umbrage Manor lot in Willow Creek and my Sim had no issue.

I assume you have issues with all Sims you try ?
  • Yup, both my sims. Did try resetting them both but it didn't help, and they have no problems on the new lot so I'm completely bamboozled!

@1smalllamp Really strange. I just downloaded the lot and replaced the house (Sims already lived there) and had the guy go watch TV
