Sim constantly mourning friends I can't find

Sim has frequently mourning "the loss of a friend" but I've seen no announcement of a Sim's death (neighborhood stories disabled) and I don't recognize any ghost friends as being newly deceased. Anyone experience this?

  • @Wndblwz Depending on the moodlet's exact wording (do you have a screenshot?) this could mean not the physical loss/death of a friend, but just that the friendship has lowered below the friend threshold, hence, loss of a friend.

It is a death. The moodlet references visiting the urn.

@Wndblwz Oh okay, at least that clears up my confusion. However, I regret that I don't know why that is happening and I haven't had that happen to me (yet). Hopefully someone else will have some advice!

You get those any time a sim that has died that is in your sim's relationship panel.  You often might have not have even met most of them.  It how the game works.  Whenever you enter a zone, every sim in that zone and every sim that enters that zone while you are there is added to your sim's relationship panel.  Usually, most of those sims drop out of the panel over time due to the relationship deterioration and culling that happens over time.  Neighborhood Stories might make it more noticeable if you have it on since it will kill off a lot of NPCs on a regular basis.  But if you have the Beloved trait, those sims will stay in your relationship panel forever until they die, and their ghosts are culled.

The only way to stop it is to turn aging off for NPCs in Game Options and shut down deaths in Neighborhood Stories.  That way none will die and your sims will not get the mourning moodlet.  Another way to manage it, is to delete the elder NPCs via Manage Households.  Or just ignore the moodlets and try to keep your sims doing things that generate "good" moodlets that will overpower the mourning one.

    Hope this helps.

@CGrant56 , this was a new Sim and there were very few friends in his relationship panel. There'd not been enough time in the game for relationships to be culled. Because I'd played him exclusively, have NPC automatic relationships disabled, something seems awry.
