SIMS 4 - No Mermaid Option

To create a Mermaid in CAS click the + to add a new Sim then choose Occult and Mermaid.

If you go to one of the public beaches you can occasionally see a mermaid come swimming. Unless that you are good friends with a mermaid they will not admit to being one.

Actually, you won't see mermaids in public until you've blown that special sea-shell horn and asked someone about the strange response.

Even existing mermaids will swim like normal sims until then.

And unless you LIVE in Ohan'ali, getting the seashell is quite hard. The seashell spawning has the same bug as public plant spawning. If you don't live in that town, they never spawn. I had to spend three straight days in that town before the shell spawned.

Something may have changed but shortly after I started playing Island Living my Sim visited a public beach and saw a mermaid swim by someway out and when getting to low water change to legs and wade in the rest of the way. I later had my Sim Marry her.

It might bypass that if you do a rotational play in the same world and create a mermaid of your own. I'm not sure but if you create your own, or eat the kelp, it might make mermaids show up from the start.

I don't remember how it was from the start. The IL patch broke so many things when it came out, I was more focused on other things.

But I'm sure mermaids won't show up on a new playthrough until you blow the horn or create one of your own.

I have island living, and live in sulani.

even from the start when i'm creating a character, there's no mermaid option, nor have i ever even seen a mermaid, kelp, or special seashell on the beach.

my friend said it might have to do with having the most updated ver of island living (?) but my origin and sims 4 itself is all updated.

Try moving your sim to Ohan'ali town and scouring the beach after a few days. There will be a seashell spawn on the beach with a suspicious name, something like "Ordinary" sea shell. You won't need to dig, it'll be sitting right on top of the sand, just pick it up.

If you live in one of the other towns, it'll take FOREVER for it to spawn, if it ever does at all. It's a bug in the game. Best to start in Ohan'ali.

But even without the seashell, you should be able to create one of your own in CAS, the option is there...
