  • I personally learned to master cc and script mods through google and watching youtube videos, but I can try my best to try and explain it easily. I still highly suggest watching a couple youtube videos or reading a few how tos to learn how to add mods or cc to your game. Just youtube or google 'How to add CC (or script mods if you want) to the sims 4"

CC and Script mods also have their own particulars, but all relatively work the same and go into the same folder.

Make sure your game is up to date with the latest patch.

First find the script mod or CC you want to download...download it and it should automatically go into your downloads folder on your computer unless you have another destination you have manually picked for download files.

All script mods and CC go into your Sims 4 Mods folder. You should be able to find this folder under the following path unless again you manually chose a different destination when installing the sims 4, but most are the same.

Go to documents, select the folder Electronic Arts, then select The Sims 4 and then select your Mods folder. IE: Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods

If the CC or script mod you chose to download is not in a ZIPPED folder, you can just move the single file or single files to your Sims 4 Mods folder. They are also known as packaged files.

If it is zipped (A lot of script mods are zipped so if you are just downloading CC you may not have to mess with ZIPPED folders too much, although CC sets do often come in a zipped folder) you extract the package files into your Mods folder(there are many free tools that will extract zip files. I personally use winRAR and have for ages) Also important to note if it is a zip file the file name will often end in .rar .zip, .7s or something like that. It will probably also have a different icon than regular single package files. DO NOT place zipped folders in your Mods folder without extracting them first, or it will not work.

Make sure in the game Allow Script Mods/CC is checked or whatever....it is under game options once you load up the sims 4 and should be easy to find. (I forget exactly where it is, but I remember it being really easy to navigate)  You will have to restart your game for this change to take effect and it will let you know once you select this option.

Also make sure the CC or mod you are downloading is not broken. There is no easy way to explain how to tell if it is or knowing other than to load up your game and look for it. There are tools to help filter things out BUT as someone who is new to CC I suggest just figuring out how to successfully add it in game before getting involved with other things like MOD tools etc.

Then you should see your CC or mod in your game. CAS items will be found in CAS and build/buy mode items will be found in build mode and so on.

I hope this helps! It can be difficult to understand everything at first (I was a bit overwhelmed with it the very first time I started using CC and especially when I started using script mods) Let me know if you have anymore questions and I'd be happy to explain something more or if I missed something. 🙂

@Rachelharris31, just know that if you add CC or Mods to your game, you will have to maintain them to keep them from conflicting with your game if they become outdated.  This will usually happen when EA updates the game with a patch.  Good CC makers and Mods makers will then update their CC items and Mods so that you can download the updated versions to replace the outdated ones, but this could take up to a few days.

Also, if you have a lot of CC, then it can be difficult to figure out which CC items need to be updated.  To save you some trouble, I will post the procedure here for your future use!

Please do all of the following:

    1) Move the Mods Folder to your desktop

    2) Delete the  localthumbcache.package file in the game folder.

    3) Fix you game in Origin by logging in and go to Library, then right-click on The Sims 4 and choose the "Repair Game" option from the list.  Wait until Origin finishes repairing all your packs and not just the base game.

    4) Now, when you turn on your game again, it will create a new mods folder that will be empty.  Check to see if your game is now working without mods/CC.

    5) Now you can try adding back items from your Mods folder one at a time checking your game each time to see which item is causing your game to not work properly.  If you have a lot of items, you can try the 50/50 Method.

The CC creators will usually update the CC items and Mods after these updates, so when you find out which one is the culprit, you can get the updated version from whoever made that item of CC in the first place.  You should try these steps anytime you have problems in your game to rule out CC/Mods problems.  It is the responsibility of the Mods/CC creators to update their items anytime EA releases a patch/update, and it is the responsibility of the people who use Mods/CC to make sure they are using the most recent version.

Hopefully this will be of help in the future! 🙂 Happy Simming! 🥳
