Sims 4 Gameplay tab greyed out

I'm new to The Sims 4 and have an issue with my Sims aging up and eventually dying while playing other households. This makes the game truly unenjoyable for me. Looking for a solution online I found out that you can fix this by adjusting the aging settings. Now my problem is that the gameplay tab is greyed out and unclickable. Therefore I can't adjust the aging settings.

Things I've already tried:

   - removing all mods/cc from the game (to see if any of them need updating)

   - disabling the mods in the settings

   - repairing the game through origin

   - deleting the game from origin and reinstalling it

   - clearing out the origin cache

I hope someone can help!

Thanks in advance for taking your time to help me!

Welcome to The Sims 4!  I have played for a while and am still learning new tricks.
When you say " gameplay tab is greyed out and unclickable" are you actually in an active game save.
That is the only way that option is available.
Open the save just like you would to play the game.
You should now be able to click the gameplay tab and adjust the aging options.
You may want to play with aging off until you get used to playing the game.
I hope this will get you back into the game.

  • @Kalllotti There are two Options Menu areas:

In the first Options Menu you go to :

    • Main Menu (initial game load page) > Options Menu > Gameplay Options > and here you will see 'Gameplay' is greyed out/ not useable. But...

If you select a game save or just click the large green play button  and enter one of your game saves (a game you've been playing and saved), when it opens up to the World Menu for that game save, you can then:

    • Open > Options Menu > Gameplay Options > and here you will see 'Gameplay' is NOT greyed out:

This is where you set your Gameplay options. It works this way so you can choose different Gameplay options for different game saves.

If you notice, my settings are where I have aging off for played and unplayed households:

To Add some information on aging settings:

"Played" Households are the one that you have actually "Opened" as a household (although you can disable this flag in the household manager)

"Unplayed" Households are what people often refer to as "Townies" or Sims that were not a part of your previous sessions.

Also in the Played Households Aging Section: Active refers to "The Household I'm currently controlling". There obviously is no such option for Unplayed as you can't control them without them becoming "Played".

My Recommended Settings if you enjoy aging but don't want your sims to die off while playing other households, is to Set Played Households to "Active Only Aging" and Unplayed to "No Aging"

    Thank you very much!

I dind't know you had to be in an active game save to have this option available. This fixed my "problem".

I'm playing on ps4 so how would I fix it? When I open  the game and go to the options it's always greyed out even when I've tried restarting the application.

Game Options is on the Options menu. That's the same menu that you use to Save. Press ESC if you're on PC or click on the 3 dots (...) on the top right menu bar to open the Options menu.
