I was having a similar issue with my saves taking forever, and I noticed a popup that it was saving to the cloud. I never told it to use cloud, it was on by default.
In Origin, hover over your user name, go to "application settings," in the top menu select "installs and saves," then turn off the toggle under "Cloud storage" beside "saves."
