Hi! i just joined the sims 4 and i’m a little confused on how to get it started i’m used to playing the sims free play on my phone so this is a big difference one of my favorite parts was the quests but in the sims four there’s nothing like that. right now i have two sims living together and every time i log on it’s the same thing i'm just fulfilling their needs over and over again and having them do random things it seems like i’m earning nothing so it’s kinda boring i also don’t understand if your just supposed to have one household or if you add more sims later. i’ve been seeing different versions of the sims as well as packs for the sims four on sale for really cheap so i’m willing to buy another version that might be more suitable for me or even some packs to make it more interesting. i’m just a little confused right now sorry
@Summer123451144 Wow... I'm going to try to take a bite of this but I know it will only be a fraction of what you're asking. Sorry for that in advance.
There's a wonderful set of guides by 'Carl'. Amongst them you can find answers to many questions about the game in general, building, packs, etc. At this link you can find a list of his guides:
Purchase expansions. They can ad an incredible amount of interest and depth of possibilities for play, depending on the particular pack and what it adds. Some expansions even add careers, skills and a lot of interesting options.
Enter challenges. On the forums you can find many threads with gameplay or build challenges that can be very challenging. This also provides potential for interaction with other players, etc.
Up your challenges in your households. If you play a large household, challenging career &/or financial goals, multiple households, out-of-household interaction/collection, etc. objectives it can increase your challenge level considerably.
Buy / run a business. This one overlaps the expansion suggestion. With Get To Work you gain careers plus you can go to work with some of them, and you can build/purchase/run a retail business. You can even sell goods that you make in the business, which increases the challenge also. (ie: Garden produce, food you cook/bake, paintings, items made on the Woodworking Table, etc. - you can sell most tings there, or items from build mode added to the store. With Dine Out you can eat out interactively or you can build/purchase and run/manage a restaurant. With Cats & Dogs you can build/purchase/run/be a vet at a veterinary clinic.
Gardening challenges. This one overlaps the expansion suggestion also. With the Seasons Expansion you are able to add many features that switch things up, including weather, gardening seriously, joining the gardener (botanist or flower arranging/florist career) career.
Expanding on the 'gardening challenges' suggestion... I like to have a cook & florist then have them also have a valuable garden and build a business for them where they sell the produce and cooked/baked goods in a retail store (through the Lice Cold Freezer customers can purchase directly from the freezer with no need to check them out) and make flower-arrangements to also sell in the store. (I have several stores set up to work this way in my gallery that you can download and use if yo udon't want to build one.)
Build. Many gamers enjoy creating lots, rooms or households for uploading to the community gallery for others to download.
Personally, I see the 'Seasons' pack as the most basic/core pack to add, if I were to only add one pack, but your choices will depend on what you want to add to your game.
My #1 fav pack is Seasons. Very cool, lots of features added, and it adds the gardening careers > Botanist career and the Flower-Arranging career. I've used flower-arranging as a nice combination for my retail stores in 'Get To Work'. And I love all of the gardening aspects of this pack! If you don't have 'Get to Work', you can still work in the career and build the skill and sell arrangements - which can be pricy with certain high quality flowers from your garden. I've had a lot of fun with the features of this pack... and it is WAY cool to see it snow and cover their world... There are a lot of challenging parts that are a cool switch-up in your worlds in this pack. I see Seasons as a near-essential enhancement to all of the worlds. It adds challenges (weather, etc.), realism, holidays, and so much more!
Get To Work is my 2nd favorite pack. It allows you to build, purchase and run retail stores, and I use it a lot. The stores (retail) are my favorite if used to sell my sims' wares. You get a pretty nice profit if you sell high quality skilled items your Sims make (or grow). My Sim households who do this as a large household working and running the store as a group are millionaires now. They do work hard and rotate managing/cooking for the store, etc., but it's a fun, great challenge. Just scale back to make it less work. Still... potential for great money! You can also join your scientist or doctor at work, work with aliens, visit Sixam, and abductions are also introduced.
My 3rd favorite pack is Cats & Dogs. The dogs I have are super cute and add personality and companionship to your household. They love swimming in the pool, too! If you get a cat, get the letter that cleans itself... the top of the line one. Well worth it! A maid & butler will help with the poo in the yard. It is pretty cool, though, if you love pets &/or cuteness. That pack also introduces the Vet career.
I love the butler option brought with the 'Vintage Glamor' pack. The 'Tiny Living' pack allows the ability to make tiny homes with lot benefits that are super helpful for new Sims (building money, relationships, and skills).
I could go on and on... sorry. I own all packs, and am happy to provide additional opinions if you share which packs appeal to you when you look on the EA website (links shared above)
Feel free to ask questions in this forum if you run into issues &/or need help.
You're right, there aren't many (any?) quest-related things in the game. It's mostly as you said, fulfilling needs.
The largest quest-type things in the game would be Strangerville where you attempt to figure out all the weirdness going on there, and Journey to Batuu, which you join one of three Star Wars factions.
Strangerville works fairly well but once you play it (2-3 hours long if you stretch things), you'll never be back.
Batuu is about just as long but it's very broken at the moment. It adds a LOT of decor, furniture and building things but they all look extremely out of place away from Batuu, and you can't build IN Batuu so they are all pretty much useless.
ECO Lifestyles had a decent idea with eco living, but it's SEVERELY broken. Same with Snowy escapes.
In fact, most of the packs are broken. I'd recommend just staying away from most of them. Save your money.
Get Famous works very well though. It's my personal favorite. The acting career is awesome, I just wish we could build on the studio lots.
Some others like Get to Work are decent if you have mods compensating for the completely broken careers. If you don't want to use mods, I'd stay away from that too.
The BEST sims game ever, if you want quests, would be Medieval. It has a few bugs but works very well. And it's based upon Sims 3 and not Sims 4, so the game engine is superb.
