Sims can't walk through open area

I'm running into a strange issue with one of my Rental Residential lots. In multiple units, my sims are not able to walk through completely open and unobstructed areas. I have tried reconfiguring rooms and placing the build on multiple lots to try to re-create the issue to see where the problem is coming from but there doesn't seem to be any explanation. The issue occurs only on the second story of the building from what I've noticed so far, but it only occurs in certain spots. Some of the second floor is accessible while other spots I'm not even able to click on or select "Go Here". I have also noticed that the issue only seems to happen after I furnish the unit, even though I have pretty much ruled out that it has anything to do with any CC or items that I've placed using the move objects cheat. This is the only lot I have ever encountered this issue with so far.

Any help would be massively appreciated as I've put quite a bit of time into trying to figure this out with no success so far 😞

Ok.  I downloaded the lot.  I see where you have the access problems on the second level.  Back room in apartment 2 and the center section of apartment 3.  I don't have any good news for you.  I tried everything I know to make those areas accessible.  It's not route blocks.  It's something about those rooms that is stuck so the game just won't see the inaccessible spaces as rooms.  That might be due to mods and CC but I don't think so. I think it's something else.

I was looking at your download and noticed that it was a lot you downloaded created by somebody else.  So, I hunted down the originals (there are 2) in the Gallery, downloaded and tested them.  They have the same problem in the same places.  So, there is nothing you did that caused the problem.  The problem is with the downloads.  Both of the lots were a residential venue in the Gallery download but one was furnished and the other not.  Judging by the pics on the download of the furnished version, I can see apartment 1 is fully furnished but apartments 2 and 3 aren't and show the same as they would if the apartment venue was residential rental when a sim is on a lot where the only apartment you can see is the active one and the others are hidden.

What I think has happened is the original creator had the lot set as a residential rental and then changed it to a regular residential right before uploading it without removing the space assignments first and probably with a sim on the lot who owns it.  There are a lot of those on the Gallery that way that people uploaded with the lot owned and/or a sim on the lot.  You can't do that with residential rentals.  They may work fine for the creator but don't for others who download the lot.  The only one who can fix the problems with those lots is the creator, if they can be fixed at all when that happens.  Usually, the Gallery upload has to be replaced so the lot works for others who download it.

So, I think you'd probably be better off scraping this lot and either find another on the gallery that doesn't have issues like this one or building your own.

    Hope this helps.

I've run into this before when I troubleshot a lot for another poster some time ago.  The problem they had sounds just like yours.  Look at how your roofs are done.  Even though you can't see a roof when it intrudes into a room, it can still block sim access at times.  If you have any 1st floor roofs, try deleting them and testing if a sim can cross the space.  Once you find out if they can or not, then start putting them back, one at the time and testing each time until you've got them all back on and sims can cross the space.

And as @Bluebellflora has offered, if you would like the lot tested, upload it to the gallery.  One or both of us will take a look to see if we can find the problem.  Just reply here with the lot name and you user ID if different than what you use here (kushlordd420).

    Hope this helps.

Yes! I have uploaded it to the gallery, my EA ID is Kushlordd420. It does have some CC but as I mentioned I think I already ruled out the issue being caused by any furniture or items moved using cheats.

  • I think it might have something to do with the roofs! The only issue is that there's no clear "roof" I can see that would cause the issue. The build is a 3 story building with no shaped or angled roof, just rooms stacked on top of one another essentially, but during one of my attempts to re-create the issue with the build on a different lot, I realized that I had managed to make some areas accessible again by destroying and re-building parts of the room. The only became inaccessible again after making the room complete (walls connecting), so I am having trouble finding out what exact part of the build is causing the issue or making those areas inaccessible.

But the build is now uploaded to the gallery if you'd like to take a look! It is under my EA ID kushlordd420

@kushlordd420 I took a look, though I don't have all your packs so it looks pretty sparse (don't have For Rent, High School Years, Get Together, Dream Home Decorator, Parenthood, or Patio Stuff)

Just to clarify - the stairs work fine for you, but there are parts of the second floor you can't access? Because all stairs were bugged for me, though I couldn't figure out why. Replacing the stairs - even if I just duplicated what was there - fixed them. Other than that (and the obvious adding in doors, which I assume would be there when the other packs are installed), I had no issues; my Sim can walk all around the second floor. I did notice one corner had a tree poking through, but there was a chair in front of it and my Sim could still use that chair. Perhaps someone with all the packs can test further.

Side note, I love the restaurant you built!

  • @CGrant56 Thank you so much for taking a look at it! I spent the majority of my day determined to re-create the issue again to see what the problem was and I do believe you are right about the route blocks and the issues caused from the Rental Residential build. Basically any other lot I place this build on does not have the issue, for some strange reason it is just on the Old Salt House lot. I placed the lot on Waterslide Warble lot right next door and it works perfectly now! I appreciate you taking a look at it, thank you so much again!!
