Sims don't complete any actions

i just completed a download for the DLCs Get to Work and Highschool years and upon completion and trying to play after download, my sims cannot complete any actions. i can move them from location to location around the house, but they are unable to do anything else that completes an action like sleeping, eating, bathing, etc.
