Sims only use dishwasher to clean dishes

Sims will only use the one dishwasher on the lot to clean dishes, despite having multiple sinks all around the property. They will travel across the property, through multiple doors, passing all sinks, to get to the dishwasher. I want sims to use the closest sink for dishes.

Yeah, they will do that all the time.  So I just don't use dishwashers.  Another thing is that the Bust the Dust pack has an aspiration milestone to wash dishes 3 times so I got rid of the dishwasher so my sims could complete that milestone. If you leave the dishwasher in place, the sims will almost never wash dishes in a sink unless the dishwasher is running so it makes it a whole lot easier to complete the milestone.

But the other thing that does happen without a dishwasher, is sims will still traipse all over the house to wash dishes.  They tend to ignore the countertop sinks most of the time and go to the bathroom pedestal sinks.  Even then, it might not be the closest one.  I have some lots where I have had to change the sinks to a different one to stop that so they wash dishes where I want them to.  Evidently, some sinks appear more attractive to the sims than others.  It's hit and miss a lot of times.  So, to get the sims doing what you want, you have to experiment for which sink works for how you want your sims to wash dishes.

    Hope this helps.

I mean, if course I can play without dishwashers, but that seems ridiculous. Why can’t they get this simple routing to work? Use whatever is closest or in the current room to wash dishes, like a normal person. Why have an item in game that we can never place without ruining gameplay?

I think it’s time this issue gets fixed.

@WendyPortledge Hi!  I actually don't mind this.  It's weird to me when sims wash dishes in a bathroom. I'd much rather they take dishes to the kitchen and why not throw them in the dishwasher when available.  Sometimes they will bypass the kitchen to wash dishes in a bathroom and I just don't like it.  lol

This would not make sense in real life as generally the dishes would need to go to the kitchen anyway and the sinks around the house will not have dish washing liquid on hand and no brush either.

If I have a picnic area far from the kitchen I will also place a dishwasher close by.

I sometimes have multiple kitchens on a property. Recently, I have a complete outdoor kitchen area on a patio. My sims will take their dishes from the patio all the way inside the house to the dishwasher in the kitchen. They pass multiple sinks to get to the one dishwasher. I have had a build in the past where they will pass other dishwashers to use the one in the kitchen. This has been ongoing for a while and I don’t see why this makes sense. If a sim can throw a plate in the garbage, they should be able to choose to use a nearby sink over a distant dishwasher.

Perhaps sinks should be designated as bathroom vs kitchen, allowing kitchen sinks to be used for dishes.

@WendyPortledge I most certainly like the idea of designating sinks as bathroom vs. kitchen.  We can click on a door to designate it as the front door.  Why not click on a sink to designate it as a kitchen sink and therefore acceptable for washing dishes? I also agree that sims should not be bypassing a kitchen sink just to go to a dishwasher.  That is a valid concern for sure.
