So you can’t load the world? Do you see two copies in manage worlds, or just one? Did you try disabling DU and then reenabling it?
I have only one Britchester. Just a white screen when entering the city and the only way out is to return to the main menu. What is DU?
DU = Discover University
But if the world is white, and there isn't a second one - had you built any residential rentals in that world? I know you are looking for an alternative to disabling For Rent, but if you have a corrupted lot, that may be what you need to do. Though there is also a less reliable possibility using Sims 4 Studio if you want to give it a try, and one of the commenters said they were able to use MCCC:
