The game keeps saying that it can't download the ghift pakage, won't let me even play a save, even if I redownload the game. The 150 bug fixes only brought more bugs and now I'm stuck in the menu!

If by "ghift package" you mean SDX, the OP in this thread game launch issues [moved out of other thread] | EA Forums - 12881948 encountered the same error. It was caused by Ransomeware protection in the anti-virus. The very last post in the thread, not the one showing as the solution, shows pictures of the blocked folder and then allowing the game's .exe permission to access the files to launch the game.
If I have misunderstood what you mean and taking the corrective step for the Controlled Folder access doesn't work, please provide the details requested by crinrict for further guidance. I am not tech savvy enough to assist you further.
