I don't know how to get it back, either, so I think your best choice is to try to pass without a presentation. I would suggest joining the Brainiacs organization if your Sim is at Foxbury Institute and becoming a Seasoned Member as quickly as possible, so that your Sim can get extra credit by just attending the organization's events. You can do the same thing for most Distinguished majors at University of Britechester by joining the Art Society or the Debate Guild. A week's worth of extra credit is usually enough to make up for missing a presentation or term paper. You might also do some Study for that class, if emailing the professor indicates that you aren't going to do well. I do recommend emailing your professors on a daily basis, since it's the only way to monitor your Sim's progress.
The quickest way to become a Seasoned Member of an organization, as far as I know, is to introduce yourself to a member of the organization at one of its events, and then spam the organization's special interactions. Discuss Project Ideas and Discuss Upcoming Test are the special interactions for Brainiacs and they are both found under Friendly/Interests. It's best to alternate between them, so that the conversation doesn't become boring. (This also builds your relationship very quickly.)
Missing a presentation will not make your Sim fail final exams. Presentations are only used for the Tuesday, Thursday classes, and those classes don't have final exams. That also applies to term papers, for the same reason.
