@unseenlarks, *"Hamsters in a Rocket" has started its word tour! Check website to see when "Hamsters in a Rocket" will be in your city. Be sure to purchase "Hamsters in a Rocket's" official concert T-shirts!* ❤️🥳😃 That would make a good band name! My family makes up band names all the time!
I've been watching the little critter run around its habitat and habitrial -- sliding down its slide and running on its exercise wheel! It's really cute! ❤️ It also rolls around on its back in what I assume is its food or water dish! 🤨 Apparently habitrails aren't the best option for some rodents (like gerbils) or types of hamsters, but are good for other types! (Gerbils are too small, and some types of hamsters are too big, especially if they are pregnant!) But we don't have to worry about that in our game. The ones in the game sure do like them! The mazes and little alcoves are supposed to mimic their natural habitat's layout.
In the game with Cats & Dogs and now My First Pet Stuff, the dogs and cats don't act any differently when dressed up. To them it is the same as a collar or nothing at all. I like to dress up my dogs and cats in the game because you don't have to worry about them being unhappy if they are the type of pet who doesn't like it! While the pets will have thought bubbles over their heads, it is usually because they have to go potty, or are hungry or are scared or something like that. Sims can also tell how their pets are feeling if they notice the thumbnail picture of them has an orange background, then you can click on the pet to have your Sim ask them "What's Wrong?" . Then a message will pop up in the upper right hand corner of your screen telling you that your pet is hungry, or need to potty, or is lonely, or wants to go for a walk, etc.
I never thought of the inability to groom themselves as one of the reasons that cats don't like being dressed up as much as dogs do! 🤨 I think you are right! 😇 I always just thought that since most dogs want attention most of the time, while most cats only want attention on their own terms was the reason that dogs are more likely to like being dressed up! I'm sure it is a combination of both!
I love that your cat will uncover herself to groom and then recover herself afterward! ❤️🐱 Sounds adorable! You mentioned that your other cat is more of a cat-dog! Sounds like a good choice for those who can only have one pet but can't decide between a cat or a dog! 😃 Many Pugs are a bit like that. My dearly departed elderly Pug would rub across your legs like a cat does. My young Pug loves to climb up high on the back of the couch, on our heads, on the back of the recliner etc. And all Pugs "purr" like cats! I think how they make the noise is different, but the effect is very similar! They do it when they are content.❤️ We call it the Puggy Purr! Also, a Pug's bark does not sound like a regular dog's bark. It always makes me laugh! So, I understand when you say your cat doesn't meow like most cats and that she sounds almost like she is barking! 😇❤️
The rodents in this pack are extremely smart! 🤨 They get thank you cards from science labs (and I think schools and museums) thanking them for their contributions that led to some breakthrough! There is also a special treat you can feed them to "dumb them down" if you just want a regular pet.
Yesterday my Sims' hamster went on a trip and I missed it! 😢 I got a card back from it saying that it went a long way from home! 🤨 But I was playing a house that also had a 2 dogs and one cat, and it was a lot with the traits that let all the stray cats and dogs visit at anytime, so I was probably busy with them! I need to play a house with just a small pet so I can really watch when it goes on "Vacation"! :eahigh_file: 🥳
i'd go see Hamsters in a Rocket in concert! XD (and... it sounds like yours are already having a good time playing in the habitrails.)
i've made up band names out of other Sims-related stuff too. wish i could remember them now...
i've seen more cute outfits for pets by now. so maybe i should show some to my cats and have them think about it... especially the one who doesn't enjoy cold weather too much.
aw... i always say that i wish i could ask my cats "what's wrong?", and have them reply in a way i (they'd mean "the silly human", i'm sure) could understand. i'm always afraid to think about them feeling sick and -unless it was a temperature or a cold- not being able to tell.
it's true... cats like attention when it suits them. XD unless it's my cat-dog... who follows me around all day and sleeps beside me every night. <3
i didn't know that Pugs made a sound like a cat's purr. *they* must be cat-dogs too--best of both worlds. <3 they sound soo adorable. maybe my cat is a Pug in disguise. right now she is a little Pig, though, as she has to eat diet food. 😞
the "thank you" card after rodents contribute to science, etc. is a great idea. i mean, all pets are way smarter than most people think they are... XD
i love the pictures, thank you so much!

@unseenlarks, I finally saw the rocket launch! :eahigh_file: But it seemed my hedgehog returned right after it left, so no postcards. The notice just said that it was testing some gravitational experiments (or maybe it was anti-gravitational )! Prior to that, when my Sim was asleep (in the same room) the hedgehog conducted 3 nuclear experiments. 🤭 But my game was at ultra speed when these happened, so I didn't get a good look, nor did I get pictures. There was a tiny "bang" and a flash of light. It also said low levels of radiation could be detected, but that these shouldn't be harmful to Sims!🤨
So, now you need a band side-project "Hedgehogs in a Rocket"! 😉
Speaking of pets liking to wear outfits in cold weather, our neighbors had a Chihuahua who loved wearing sweaters in the winter! ❤️
Yes, it is the worst when pets are sick (or really young children are sick) because they can't tell you what's wrong. 😢 It's hard to know if you should take them to the clinic or if it is better to treat them at home if it is a mild illness. I've taken my dog to the vet when she was getting her puppy vaccines because I didn't know the first day or so would be rough on her with the lepto vaccine. I panicked and took her in, when it turned out I didn't need to. But I used to have a friend whose dog had gotten infected with lepto , so I knew how important it was to get my dogs vaccinated! 😞 (Her dog almost died from lepto but miraculously lived! 😇
Needless to say, it is much easier to tell when you pet is sick in the game! If there is ever an option to take the dog or cat into the vet, then it means they should go! There are also special treats to lessen how much your pet gets sick! 😎
Your cat who follows you everywhere sounds sweet! 😇 That's how my beloved male Pug was! He once got mad at my adult nephew because my nephew went to the bathroom and didn't let my dog in with him! 😃 My nephew had to apologize to my dog when he was finished! 😳 What kind of cats do you have? Which is the one that follows you everywhere and sleeps beside you? That cat sounds like the best of both worlds for those who can't decide between a cat and a dog! 🥳 and maybe your cat is part Pug, since Pugs are known gluttons! I've had other dogs, and while they all loved to eat, none of them love to eat the way my Pugs do! I've heard other Pug owners say the same thing! 😃 I think I would love your cat! ❤️ 🐱
Yes! Pugs will purr! It isn' t quite as smooth as a cat's purr, but it is very comforting just like when a cat purrs! It is kind of like snoring but the dog is awake. They usually do it if they are very comfortable/content! Try Google-ing "Purring Pugs" for some examples on YouTube! 😃 🐶
Oh, I forgot to mention about the My First Pet SP, that with my hedgehog there haven't been any thank you cards for his contributions from scientists yet, but I did see a new card pop up on the screen! It seems my hedgehog wrote a book! I even got some Simoleons for royalties! :eahigh_file:🥳
First pic is of the hedgehog in the habitrail playing. The next you can see the rocket before lift off. The last is of my Sim, Daisy Yee, playing with Thimble the Hedgehog.❤️ I also recorded footage of the rocket launch! 🥳

hi @PugLove888,
gravitational and nuclear tests? sounds small pets are really on to something... i wonder just how many of those theories and discoveries they're keeping to themselves.
and hedgehogs are super cute, i think i want them to be in a band too. now, i'm afraid music is an undercover operation for them, though. or they're all part of some sort of top-secret project... and pretending to be simple household pets. the book royalties were a nice touch. XD
OMG, i'd forgotten chihuahuas love to be dressed up too. my sister has a co-worker* whose especially tiny one wears denim dresses. and she is so little she trembles all the time. *i think this person also has a larger dog who wears football teams jerseys. XD
i sometimes feel like i'm overreacting when i take my cats to see the vet... but i don't care any more. 😉 they're getting old, and i want to do everything i possibly can to keep them healthy and happy. so i totally understand why you took your dog to the vet after she got the vaccine. <3
LOL. pets following people into the bathroom sounds familiar. 😉 same thing happens to me. they're always so offended if they can't do what they want. if the door is closed they will demand to be let in, if it's left ajar they'll just open it. but if you happen to open any locked doors (they *will* demand it), often they will just stare at it, and walk away. :D they just want the power.
one of my cats is part Siamese. i say "part" because her tail is striped. that's a mystery. the other one is a rescue, so who knows... her eyes are yellow and she is 100% white, save for a mole on her nose. because of her size, ears, paws and type of hair, she looks like a mix of Angora, Maine, and Norwegian Forest Cat... even if those are unlikely breeds. i'm sure she is... just Cat! (or Dog-Cat--she is the one who follows me around, eats a lot, stands on two legs when she greets me, and "barks". she can also jump and turn some handles to open doors. XD)
i was very familiar with the purring Pug sound... because it's very similar to my Dog-Cat's! (or now, officially, Pug-Cat!) the other one makes some different sounds in-between the purrs... and also snores really loudly. XD but they sound a lot alike. it's amazing. <3
and thank you! the pictures are *so* cute. that hedgehog has a "look" in his eye... he's no ordinary pet! and i love your Sim, too! 🙂 - PugLove8888 years agoHero (Retired)
@unseenlarks, yes our Sims' little rodents certainly are a busy bunch! 😃 And yes, if these small pets were in a band, it would be a cover for some top-secret project! 😉
Yes, a lot of Chihuahuas shiver! Makes you want to give them a warm hug! ❤️ I had 4 neighbors on my street growing up who all had Chihuahuas! ❤️ (And I love that the person you mentioned put football jerseys on his or her larger dog! :eahigh_file:
I know what you mean by wanting to make sure your older pets are as healthy and happy as they can be! It was that way with my elderly Pug before he passed away! But then I'm the same with my puppy! Better to be safe than sorry!
Speaking of taking our pets to the vet, in the game I tried to have one of my Sims take a stray cat to the vet ... while the cat went with her, the game wouldn't let me check her into the vet clinic to get treated! I didn't want my Sim to adopt her (she's concentrating on her hedgehog) but I felt bad for the kitty!
Ah, that is one of the differences between cats and dogs! 🤨 Cats want power; dogs just want to be with their people! 😇 My Pug that got upset when he couldn't follow my nephew into the bathroom did this because we got him from a rescue organization. He had been abandoned before (they found him on the street) so he had separation anxiety! He hated when anyone left the house or closed the door to keep him out!
Your Siamese cat could be a mix, or it could just be that she is full Siamese with a genetic mutation that makes her tail stripped. I know they have genetic tests for dogs, so I'm pretty sure they have them for cats (but they probably cost a lot of money!) But she sounds beautiful! 😇 Your rescue cat sounds very fluffy! ❤️ And I think she might be part Pug because my little Pug stands on her hind legs a lot! 🤨:eahigh_file: But it is amazing that she can open some doors! 🤨 She's a genius! 🥳 But its funny to think that your cat and my dog both sound alike when they purr!
I was really fortunate to get such a good picture of my Sim's hedgehog! It can be tricky to get the camera just right. I'm really happy you liked the picture! I need to get a close-up pic of the mouse, and better pics of the hamster and the voidcritter! (I can't remember which type of Voidcritter it is but it starts with a "B".)
I'm also glad you liked my Sim! Daisy is a very goofy, playful Sim! That hairstyle and shirt came with the My First Pet SP! I love the teal highlights with her dark brown hair! Most of her clothing is a combination of MFP pack, JA pack, and Laundry pack. I'm just showing one outfit in these pics today, though.
And my hedgehog has now gotten a thank you card from a Science lab for its contributions, like my other Sim's hamster did. And he must have gone into space again becaseu I got another postcard from him with an illustration of him wearing a spacesuit. (My hamster's postcard had him in a Hawaiian shirt!) 😃 And you are correct! There is a certain look in the hedgehog's eye that tells you its not an ordinary hedgehog! 🤔 😃
- unseenlarks8 years agoSeasoned Acehi @PugLove888,
small dogs look especially cute when dressed up. it's sometimes their faces seem to say "wait until i can get out of this outfit"... but other dogs just love it. so maybe they also have their own fashion preferences and should be allowed to choose their own. XD
so Sims can't take pets they don't own to the vet? makes me think about how some vet clinics or pet shops have signs on the front saying there's dogs or cats up for adoption and list the "foster home's" number. but people who find them can pay for their treatment until the pets find homes. my neurologist recently adopted a dog, it was found along with other puppies by a colleague of hers, who took them all to the vet to get shots, knowing she couldn't keep any of them *and* before she let people know she had them. that was really generous.
it could be that my Siamese cat has some genetic mutation. i'd never thought of that--just that she was part tiger. she certainly has the attitude. she acts like royalty and very "Siamese if you please" but also lets her bad temper show sometimes! XD
and i keep thinking... maybe my white Pug-Cat spent the first months of her life around dogs. also, she used to be scared of so many things and noises when she was younger but she adjusted over time, and "adopted" me very quickly. and yes, she is really fluffy! <3
it's funny because she often has a confused or clueless look on her face, but then she does really smart things. she is also kind of clumsy for a cat, which is why i want her to lose some weight. especially because, at times, instead of moving like a regular cat, she "cannonballs" from higher places and once hurt her paw after an awkward "landing". it wasn't serious but she limped for a day or so.
i think the small pet you told me about was the mini Bubalus? and the hedgehog in a spacesuit sounds so adorable.
i love your Sim's hair too. reminds me of how i wanted to get blue highlights when i was a teenager, but my parents would have killed me... so i just stuck to solid shades. XD and i often use big hoop earrings, not just to wear myself... but them being the one accessory one of *my* Sims wears.
thanks *so* much for posting more screenshots! i love how every pack has something interesting/fun to research and learn about. =)
