unable to drag a plant on the floor into my sim's inventory

i need to make a red hot serum for my sim's scientist career. i spawned some basil in the lot using the buydebug cheat but the only thing i can do with it is have my sim eat it. how to i get it into ...

The game is very picky about ownership of some items a sim makes or works to create. Harvestable food is one of those items. did you spawn it at the lab? You would be more successful doing that at home and then putting it in your inventory. I know that is not what you wanted to hear because you wanted to create the serum and needed it there. I take care of this issue three ways: 1) have a garden with what you need at the lab. 2) have a gardener buy a retail lot and sell the food items. Your sim can go to the “store” and buy what they need. 3) there is a good mod by coolspear at Simsasylum (free membership required). Search for Perfect fruit. It is a fruit bowl that allows you to click on it and buy any fruit veggie or herb. You could keep one at work for making serums. Hope some of the these suggestions help. Everyone plays differently...

Thank you! i figured out you can get basil from starter packs, i used the lab's infinite money in build buy to buy a ton of them from the gardening section of build/buy, i spammed opening them and i found a ton of basil in my sim's inventory, thanks anyway!
