Unable to load lots in Koh Sahpa after buying For Rent

I've been slowly working on a clean save file where I empty all lots. I bought For Rent and Wedding Stories yesterday, and started to demolish the lots in each of those worlds. Wedding Stories didn't show any issues, and I demolished all of the lots in Tomarang as well except... Sungai Point. I haven't been able to load that lot once, be it in live or build mode, visiting with a family, nothing works. The game crashes every time.

I've tried:

  • updating all CC/mods
  • removing all CC/mods
  • deleting the cache file
  • moving a family out of/into the lot
  • uninstalling/reinstalling For Rent
  • renaming the EA folder and restarting the game so it would create a new user folder, took the first random Sim it created in CAS and tried to load the lot again in that brand new user folder/save file, still failed

I've been searching around but none of the workarounds I've found seemed to work, or the issue described didn't really match mine. Other things to note:

  • it's not a matter of huge save files or save files with a lot of builds or households; I had a total of 4 save files, one single small household/lot built in 2 of them, the 3rd one is the clean save file I've been working on, I've created 8 families in them, built nothing, only demolished, and I haven't even actually played with any of the families yet, I just made them to have those ready in that clean save file. The 4th one is a backup of the 3rd one (unfortunately I think I only created it after the issue started). I checked the file size of all of these save files, they're fine as far as size goes.
  • one of the first things I did was try and load that same lot in a different save file. Same issue. In every save file. I believe this, together with the fact that even replacing the EA folder with a new clean user one didn't fix it either, strongly suggests the issue was there the moment I installed For Rent. Either that or a recent patch that was added between the last time I played (a few weeks ago, before buying For Rent) and now.
  • While trying a few things like those listed above, this issue started expanding to other lots (so far, I've only noticed this happening in the 5 lots in Koh Sahpa).

I don't know what else to do, I'd try reinstalling the base game and all expansions I have but 1. that would take a lot, and 2. if creating a new user folder didn't work, I don't see how reinstalling would.

I'm running the game on OSX, it's above the minimum requirements from what I can see, plus I'd been playing fairly recently without issues so I get the feeling it's either something about the For Rent expansion pack, or a recent patch that was automatically added. I'm not too tech savvy but considering it immediately impacted all my save files, I think it'd be odd for all of them to be corrupted at the same time (?), rather than it being triggered by the newly installed pack or update.

This game and its many packs are investments, and considering this expansion pack was released over 2 years ago I have a hard time seeing this big an issue still occurring as reasonable. Would really appreciate some help or guidance in getting this fixed, ideally in a way that doesn't compromise my clean save file as it took me a long time to create those families.

  • To be sure, when you tried this on a new save game, did you start demolishing stuff again or just tried to enter the lot right away ? Did you enter the original lot as it was without changing anything and new Sims or the same you tried before ?

    Do you have any LastException files in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4 ?

    • Delete the ones you have
    • Trigger the error again
    • Check if new ones are created
    • If that is the case, please copy/paste the content here. You can open the file with any text editor.

    Deleting the file won't fix your issue. Posting the info is meant for troubleshooting.

    Hi, thanks for looking into this!

    I've made many different attempts at this point, but I can say that at least once I went straight to trying to access that original lot with no prior actions (i.e. new user EA folder in Documents (so no CC/mods, cache, saves, trays, anything like that)), launched game, of course I had to go into CAS to create a new first Sim for the new save file (I don't think there's a way to go to manage worlds on a brand new save without creating a new Sim (?)), but I took whatever random Sim it generated, saved that Sim and proceeded) and then tried to access that lot as is, and it still crashed. In my current EA folder in Documents, there is no LastException file (only a few LastCrash ones). I can try and do it again to see if it generates one now. However, as I mentioned, I renamed my original EA folder that had my original save files, and I do have a LastException file in that one. I imagine you asked for one for the new file attempt for a reason, but since I don't have one, I'll share the content of the one of my original save file here, just in case (there are 4 in that folder all from around the same time, I'm attaching the most recent one).

    In the meantime, I'll try this in the new save again and see if it generates a LastExpections file for this one.

    Any insight appreciated!

    I feared it was not actually going to upload the .txt file and it seems it didn't, my bad. Copy/pasting content below:

    <?xml version="1.0" ?><root>

    </root>

    Reminder that of course at this stage I did have mods as they were my original save files, but as mentioned updating and removing my mods was one of the first things I tried, I turned off CC/mods allowed at some point too and the issue persisted.

    Hi FrankieRowis

    apologies, seems I missed your post. Are you still having issues with it ?

    The LE you posted is related to TOOL and probably a different issue.
