@sheridanhoughton it's a known bug, here's the thread for you if you want to click Me Too on the first post and add a reply.
It seems to be worse with cottage living planters for some players.
Gardening is quite susceptible to bugs (and not just the winged ones) I hope this one is fixed soon.

thanks for your reply. I had a look at the other thread, but my problem is slightly different. since the latest update, there is no option to weed plants that are not in season. the menu option is just not there. when I click on the plant, it just has two options - Harvest (out of season), which is greyed out, and uproot plant. there is no option to weed, water, fertilise, or anything else.

It is because of the change in gardening where a plant no longer revert to a dirt pile when out of season. Instead it goes dormant and nothing can be done to it. If your sims gardening skill is high enough there is a workaround if you have another plant in season with weeds nearby you can choose Weed area on that which will also remove weeds on the dormant plant.

Many of my plants still revert to dirt piles when not in season - even trees. But it is not only those that don’t have the option to weed. Some of them still look like plants but give me no option to weed or water, etc
