Wedding Stories Suggestions (because why not?)

Let me start this by giving a little background.

  • My dad was a preacher so I've been to loads of weddings.
  • My parents "freelanced" as wedding photographers, they loved weddings, so again, LOADS of weddings.
  • I was a wedding photographer because I (can you imagine?) love weddings. I gave it up because I don't like Bridezilla or her meaner, harsher counterpart, Brizilla's Mother. Terrifying pair, that.

I was so excited about this pack coming out that I fangirled over it. My DH was so amused, and my youngest child has been sitting beside me watching weddings and asking so many questions--to begin with, why don't the sims sit down and be quiet during the wedding? Even she knows they are supposed to be quiet and respectful during the ceremony. So, here is my list of suggestions for Wedding stories.

  1. Once the option "Please take your seats" is clicked, and the invited sims park it in the chairs or pews or whatever, they should lock into sitting and no talking, followed by applause or cheering at the Spousal Kiss, and not release them until the marrying pair return up the aisle. It shouldn't be all that hard to achieve--pose packs come to mind. Why is this important? I've done several weddings now, and after the guests sit, they pop up and often gather around the marrying pair at the arch, and they're all so flipping friendly that they all stand there talking at the wedding arch, and the marrying pair get swamped--their assigned task "Exchange vows and kiss" glitches out and the whole troupe just stands there chatting. Another post on this topic suggests that Weddings is like herding cats. I quite agree.
  2. The Sims of Honor need a place to stand relative to the arch or aisle or whatever. Standing there, looking pleasantly at the marrying pair. Not whipping out a guitar and jamming or taking a rump and knitting through the ceremony.
  3. The flower pal and ring bearer should also just stand there looking at the marrying pair pleasantly. They should not decide to dump flour, chocolate or paint all over the aisle, or kneel down to complete homework or a variety of any other things in the chaos that is Weddings.
  4. Could the marrying pair please act less like shy children admitting a crush? Just for once, could sims behaviors be somewhat more realistic and attractive? The high drama of the original wedding ceremony was annoying. The animations for the new ceremony is silly and obnoxious.

As someone raised in, and who temporarily made a living in weddings, it is almost embarrassingly painful to observe the hijinx that take place in the Sims 4 Weddings pack. Now, I'll be honest, some of the stunts they pull have me "rolling in the aisles" with laughter. Like the groom deciding to sing, something he had no skill or talent for, or the mother of the bride flirting with the best man throughout the ceremony.

Things that would be really cool to add:

  • A "jumping the broom" type ceremony. One of my sons-in-law is a pagan, and he mentioned this. I think it's brilliant. Also, a hand-fasting would be nice.
  • A canopy for Jewish players would be brilliant, along with hold-able candles for them and a glass to break. Certainly if you can have other cultures represented, this could be too?
  • Make a few different "vestments" for your officiants! A suit coat with a priest's collar rather than a tie that is for both male and female; clothing appropriate to a sort of generalized pagan priest or priestess; clothing appropriate for a rabbi. Maybe a judge for some weddings at city hall? An Elvis costume for those who elope to Vegas? LOL, LOL the possibilities are ENDLESS. You guys are GREAT at clothes. You can do it!! I believe in you!!

Lastly, I am a Christian person, so my Sims have a "park" venue that I built as a church. It's very pretty. I also built a wedding venue in Tartosa; also very pretty. The wedding ceremony activities works in my "Park" "Church," but does not work in my wedding venue except for the vow exchange. If all the guests can shut up long enough for the marrying pair to line up the "exchange vows" directive.

Overall, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Weddings Pack. I just think some things could be added or altered to make Weddings more enjoyable for story telling and the like.

  • The main thing that I find really missing in this pack is the feature to take actual wedding pictures.

Hiring a photographer and having actual wedding poses such as the spouses holding hands or sharing a kiss. This is such a hassle at the moment to take pictures that ressemble a wedding photo without using mods.

Not including this is such an oversight, not even mentionning how a freelance wedding photographer career would have been great.

  • I agree and clicked me too. I found it so broken I just use the wedding arch and let them get married with a few friends supporting them. LOL cause the friends usually take off to do something else. Oh well they make it to the party afterwards.
