@ilvny I love butlers! I know they could use some tweaks, but even so I love adding them to a lot if the sims have the money, especially since I love to play large and busy households. Following are some of my reasons, for what it's worth. I find the larger your household is the better a bargain their services are...
• You’ll have someone who autonomously assists with cleaning, repairs, clearing dishes, & making food; they can play instruments, mix drinks, will water your garden, provide companionship (social), & they do a certain amount of tending of minors.
• Butlers will pick up animal toys and poo, and give pets attention if you have the Cats & Dogs Expansion Pack.
• If you have the Discover University Expansion Pack and get roommates they will help clean up after them (plus having prepared food and repairs done helps keep roommates happy); If you make a Servo the butler will autonomously repair it (& Servos need a lot of repairs!).
• If you have the Laundry Day Stuff Pack butlers will do your laundry.
• They seem to have a slow needs decay, so I assume that's why they are awake more hours than my normal Sims.
• They have mad skills. I think it's normal for them to have more talents and skills than many basic Sims.
• I've also wondered if some have a bit l more or less skill in certain areas and if that's part of why some sit around reading their training manual. If this is the case they may increase certain skills over time. I don't use the Mods that check traits, etc., but it would be very interesting to check and monitor this! I once went in CAS and checked traits on one I had in a home to find he had some vamp trait thing. I got rid of him just because I don't want to deal with vamps, but that's me. I usually hunt my butlers down in households and add them to 'fav' households to protect them from culling. I also do that for other employees I like a lot.
Another fun feature with the Vintage Glamour stuff pack is the Globe Bar. It’s cheap compared to other bars, and all Sims love it (including the butlers!). I think this pack is a great bargain!

Yeah, in my non-vampire household I really enjoy having the butler. They're disgustingly rich spellcasters who had triplets (yikes) so they need a lot of help! I didn't play that household during The Foodpocalypse so I don't know if I would feel differently if I had.
Also, it's just nice to have things to spend all that money on, lol! I built their butler a cottage on the property (although it's mostly just for play, lol--she has her own bed/bath/kitchenette/sitting area, but she seems to spend a lot of time in the main house anyway and is welcome to do so).

Last time I had a butler was also during the Foodpocalypse so I eventually dismissed him because he'd make food constantly except when I asked him to. The only other annoyance I had at the time was that I had to manually tell him to go to bed every night so he'd actually sleep at the same time as the family and let the game go into super ultra speed.
ETA: In retrospect, the Foodpocalypse butler wasn't nearly as annoying as the time I was assigned a Klepto who kept stealing my pet food bowls, so there's that at least.
