Why are all of my Sims vegetarian?

On PS4, all of the Sims I've created so far are only allowed to cook Vegetarian-Safe meals.  I didn't expect any of them to be vegans.  Is this a glitch? I didn't even see a Meat-Eating or Vegan trait when I created them.

Under lifestyle you have Vegetarian trait. However vegetarians can cook any meal if they have sufficient skill. A lot of recipes are listed as vegetarian safe whether or not your sim is vegetarian. Look under your Sims info do they have the Vegetarian trait?

  • @AstridRogue101  That seems weird. I'm not aware of any of the sims that I created turning out to be vegetarians... since it is a trait you assign when you create them, I'm not sure why it wouldn't be what you assigned. Did you check their traits, as @jpkarlsen suggested to confirm that this is actually a trait assignment that is the root of this? Did you assign their aspiration and the three traits when creating them? Not sure if it's possible that the game will choose for you if you don't choose the aspiration &/or traits? You are able to change the aspiration after the sim has been created, but not the traits (unless you use a cheat or mod or whatever is needed). There is a "Re-Trait Potion" that a sim can purchase from the 'Rewards Store' with 5,000 of their satisfaction points (gained from satisfying their whims/what they want to do). Perhaps you can try that.

@AstridRogue101, you won't have a Vegetarian trait unless you have the City Living EP installed. 😉  But as @jpkarlsen said, many dishes are marked as vegetarian safe. This is useful even if you don't make your Sim a vegetarian because they might have guests visiting who are Vegetarian, and therefore they know which meals are safe to cook! 😇  No good host wants to make their guests sick! 🤒😃

Also, there is no meat-eating trait or Vegan trait in the game. (Vegans are not allowed any animal products, so eggs and dairy are forbidden.  Vegetarians can eat animal products if it doesn't kill the animal, so dairy and eggs are allowed.) So in the game, there is only the Vegetarian trait, as you will notice that many of the Vegetarian-safe meals have eggs or cheese in them. 😉

@PugLove888  Wow, I had no idea that the vegetarian trait came with City Living. I've basically had it almost from the beginning of playing Sims 4, so there are overlaps that I'm not aware of. I never add it to my sims, though, so I'm not familiar with the ins-and-outs of the trait. Feeding large households is complicated enough at times! 😉 Anyway... this information should helpful in the situation @AstridRogue101 is describing. Sorry for any misdirection and thank you for adding it!

@SheriGR, that's alright!  I used to think it came with the base game as well, but I found out it didn't.  I don't make very many Vegetarians in my game since it only affects their eating habits and nothing else but a few conversation topics.  Mostly I reserve that trait for storytelling purposes, if it really seems essential to their character! 🙂  I think I never noticed it wasn't in the base game because in the past versions of the Sims I didn't use it too much.  🤭
