If you turn ageing off for animals your baby chickens will not grow up.
I think you can indeed best put again up for a bit until they are grown up and then turn it off again.

I wish there was an "age up" treat for chicks, like they have for kittens and puppies in saves with aging off.

That's what I've been looking for. I also haven't found a mod or cheat that gets them to grow up. I'll try the turn on aging to see if it works, but am going to save before trying it in case any of my Sim's other animals die. She's got horses, mini goats, and a dog.
