No, cakes don't work on elders. Without the cheat code, get them to jog and never sleep. Take away any reward traits that may be prolonging them like "Neverweary" with a potion bought in rewards store. There is one that resets traits I think.
The most "painless" death though is elder exhaustion.
Another way is get them hysterical with laughter. Then they laugh to death. Seriously, I've tested it and it works!
Cheat buffs don’t work anymore. Hysterical hasn’t worked for me before but I followed as @Dannakyri1 suggested and used a flower arrangement with a death flower scent.
