2 Sims stuck in rooms, help!

I dont know what has gone wrong, but I cant get the sims to walk anywhere? One is stuck in the bathroom, he will not walk out? I get a red cross above the footstep icon? The same with the other sim, but is in hallway? Unable to continue playing Sims 4!

  • It might be a bug impacting the bathroom door. I noticed it a few times. I found two workarounds. One is to go into Build/Buy and to pick up and replace the bathroom door, but you need to do that after each time a sim showers. While that worked, I also found that I could just replace that bathroom door with a new type of door and then it wouldn't glitch.

I think it's a bug impacting one of the old basegame doors that is in a lot of the original houses. The sim takes a shower and then the door freezes. Like I said, deleting the door or just picking it up with the hand tool and putting it back works in my experience. I had figured that they would fix it so hopefully this helps to bring it to their attention.

As I mentioned, I think it's a specific basegame door that has this problem. For example, the original bathroom in Agave Abode has a door with this problem. Some of the ones in Willow Creek do too.
  • @ChampandGirlie I've noticed that too on occasion in Willow Creek. I just smash the door down and put a different one in, or even just delete and completely rebuild the bathroom as a new room from scratch.

Pro-tip: Keep in mind which way the door swings open. I had that problem where the door swung into a bedroom, but when open, it was only one square (tile) you could get into because the bed was in front, the open door to the left, and the wall to the right. It was simple to fix that, just switch which way the door opens in build mode. So have it swing open into the hallway instead of the bedroom. Another way I suppose would be to have a different door that swings open towards the wall.

I actually pay quite a bit of attention now to placing doors when building or modifying a place.
  • Thanks for replies. The world is Oasis Springs and the house is an original, Agave Abode. I tried replacing the door and also tried a walk through frame, but still stuck? Sometimes after re-starting the game, they free themselves, but then soon get stuck again? The other sim is stuck in the hallway not able to enter any room or go outside. The only thing I can try, is to move to another house as this one is bugged!

I'd have to see it to give any technical advice at this point. As @Chazzzy said, it may even be something overlooked like a roof overhang.
  • @Admiral8Q - I didn't think about the impact of the way that the door opens.

In the bug that I've seen, it only occurs after a shower, not a bath. It doesn't matter if it is a combo shower or a stand alone one. You're right that replacing that type of door seems like the best solution. For a while, I was going into build/buy quickly after a sim would shower to reset the placement of the door each time but that was a bit annoying.

I think it's one or possibly several of the earliest basegame doors. Newer doors don't have that issue. It does tend to show up in original houses from the basegame. Now that I think about it, my new Goths in the Goth mansion have that issue too. I've also seen it in Umbrage Manor.
  • I have had this happen a few times and will just travel the sim to a different lot using the phone which works. Then when the sim returns home they can use the bathroom as normal. I think it’s a bug.
  • @netney52 It would be easier to replace the door instead of having to do that all the time.

@ChampandGirlie Yeah, that "Pro-tip" stuff I posted was extra tips on doors. Basically just smash it out and put a different one in should solve the problem. ;)
