I decided to go ahead and buy High School Years at full price, as I was getting bored with what packs I had, and I liked packs that focused on "everyday life". One of my big complaints has always been that NPC careers aren't available to the played household and that once an NPC moves in with a played household, they are then unemployed.Seems that may be changing. Mei and Molly Prescott are currently a part of my current household, as Mei is currently the girlfriend of my played Sim. Before moving in, Mei had asked my Sim if she should change careers, and I noticed that when Mei and Molly were moved into my household, Mei was listed as a "Stay at Home Mom". Molly went to school this morning, and I decided to delete the townie who had taken over from Mei as principal. A few moments later, Mei showed up as principal. Surprisingly, she was the Mei in my household, not a duplicate. She walked around, acting exactly as she did as an NPC. The action queue lists her actions as "Careers". However, she isn't acknowledged as having the career in her career panel, and she certainly isn't getting paid for it. I have MCCC. Is this supposed to happen? First time I've ever seen anything like this happen, and the Sims Wiki says it's not supposed to happen. If Mei is in the current household or has died, she won't appear in the high school and a randomly generated sim will be the principal instead. I was impressed. All I can say is--why doesn't this happen more often? The game should have support for multiple Sims in one household with the same career, as well as retaining NPC careers and allowing played Sims to have that role (even if it's not an active career). Secondly, did I break something or is something broken allowing this?

The Prescott’s have moved in my game via NS and Mei kept her principal job, yet Celene moved and lost hers. I couldn’t find anything in the NS notices that said she quit the bartender job, just that she moved to Evergreen Harbor. I wonder if Mei having a family and living in a house when a save starts has any affect? Celene tends bar in Moonwood Mill but she’s always listed as ‘not in the world’.

I'd really like it if we had better ability to influence those NPC roles if we want to.

I think every job in the game should be playable/attainable.

@mightysprite I didn’t phrase that very well. While Celene was the bartender in Moonwood Mill she was listed as ‘not in world’. There was no notice in NS that she quit the bartender job, just that she moved to Evergreen Harbor. I’ve wondered since then if her moving into a home automatically kicked her out of the job. Mei has moved in my game but not lost her job, but she started out with a home unlike Celene.

I wish I had an answer for you. I don't normally play premades or NPCs. I have had the Elder School Teacher die and get replaced by another, but never have lost Mei Prescott. Could be a glitch, or if you use mods, something could be interfering with the game mechanics.

She most likely has a special trait that makes her the principal so when you deleted the other one she showed up. I suspect that you might have to keep deleting ‘other’ principals as the game doesn’t want played sims in those ‘special’ roles. None of the high school staff really have jobs there, they just have the special traits. I have a mod that prevents random sims from spawning so the high school staff will often show up as mixologists and vendors if new ones are needed. The game doesn’t see them as employed so it puts them in any needed roles. I hate it.

I think this is a special case, not the norm.

When the game generated a principal other than Mei for you, it didn't remove Mei's npc trait, it only added a second principal. (I have this case in the detective career, where I have two played chiefs. When I play Sim A, Sim B appears at the police station as chief and when I play Sim B, then it'll be Sim A. In any other case it is random, either A or B.)

Now the moment you deleted the second principal you were playing at school, and Mei wasn't loaded as part of the active houshold. In fact, the game thought Mei was in a different household from Molly's. Therefore she was eligible to appear as principal. Yes, I know that Mei really is part of Molly's household, but the game has trouble recognizing this. Example: When you are on a community lot with a sim, you may receive calls from their parents that live in the same household: "Why don't you visit me? I miss you". And then, when you return home, the parent will be overjoyed that you didn't forget them.

Long story short, I think this was an exception.

@DaniRose2143 "Not in world" means they don't have a residential lot to live in.
Now that your Celene lives in Evergreen Harbor, she should be listed as an Evergreen Harbor resident now, instead of "not in world" ?

I wonder if that special trait system mentioned by @RedShoe7 works differently for high school staff than for the sages, pub owner, etc. who lose their special roles when they move into a new lot?

I frankly don’t know how that works, anymore. MCCC moved my HoB NPCs out of town and they lost their jobs as a result. I had to move them back, then cheat their NPC status back in. They’re on a lot, but still have their jobs, now. But, Neighborhood Stories moved the sages out to a lot and they’re still sages, while Celene got moved and lost her job. If someone figures it out, let me know. I really want some of these special NPCs left alone.
