Sims 3 has more realistic relationships imo.
I had a married couple divorce in Sims 3 in a civil manner and even though the kids weren't present when that happened, they (the kids) were still sad for some time after that.
In Sims 4, I had my couple fight several times and divorce in the daughter's room while her boyfriend was there for a sleepover, and neither she nor he seemed to bat an eye. They just watched the fight and the girl was "happy" from nice decorations or whatever.
This kinda ruined the whole mood thing for me.
I like and enjoy TS4 (wasn’t the case at first. Upon release I didn’t like it at all) but, what you just said is probably my biggest gripe with it. I got over loading screens, I got over base game things not being there at first but, I still find it hard to get over real and meaningful consequences in this game. The scenario you explained I’ve seen. Last night while I played my child kept making messes. Her mother disciplined her behavior, calmly at first but then did so firmly when she wouldn’t stop. During the firm interaction she definitely displayed the correct tone and animations but as soon as she was done she went on, with a smile as though nothing had occurred.
I ignore it and infer through my own imagination that she was upset but it gets old and I shouldn’t have to. It’s a simulation and sims should have some sort of lasting mood effects especially if it’s negative. The game is very utopian in that and I do miss real drama and backlash for negative situations. TS2 in my opinion did it the best. It was somewhat watered down in TS3 with the absence of fears but still there. It’s completely gone in 4. Not sure why the design team went that route but I do hope that if TS5 is a thing in the future that they bring that back. We are supposed to be playing with life, and although I understand not all elements can be incorporated, deviant and negative consequences should still play out.
I kinda rambled but hope that makes sense.
