We were able to enter spa-like buildings, grocery shopping and even shop for clothes in The Sims 2. Restaurants and many other venues that we could enter. Some of those activities existed way back in The Sims 1!
Those were great. :) Would like to see a come back.
Now about seeing them working or going to school, I think that's a little too much IMO. I play The Sims to escape a little from real life. To see everything being repeated in-game would be a bit too much and probably for the coding as well. The professions and self-employed features implemented in The Sims 3 are good enough to me.
