Adopted children

Hi, sorry I have another question to ask. Adoption is something I plan to have in my game but I'm confused as to how it works, do adopted children become biologically related to the adopted parent? as I understand it their family tree will show the adopted parent as the mother/father, so does that mean they will have the adopted parent's genetics? that would be a problem for me as I want to keep to realism as much as possible. Also families irl don't need to be blood related to be family.

  • When a child is adopted, they become connected in the family tree as the children of whoever adopted them, there is no mention of the child's history of being adopted. As far as getting the parent's genetics themselves, I can't see any resemblance, unless they already shared some similarities such as hair, eye, or skin color. I haven't had too many sims adopt children, but I have a couple of different times, and this is what I noticed. As the children aged up, they didn't share any of the biological traits as their siblings. One son once he became a teen he was extremely muscular, even though he never worked out, while his parent's biological children once they aged up were thinner and fewer muscle mass. Another mother who adopted a baby girl, when that little girl aged up she had weight issues, while her siblings were skinny toothpicks.

As far as grandchildren I have less information on that, because of the above sims only one of those had one grandson.
  • Adopted children are randomized (got a blonde hair tannish asian looking kid from a pair of white parents), but I don't know if the genes from the adopted parents pass to the grandkids. As far as I know Sims 4 genetics generally focus more on the parents but there is a genuine possibility they could in theory transfer over. Mainly cause I don't think the game differentiates between "adopted" or biological kids. You either have them mix up the genes or randomly generate a sim and slap on the title of "child."

It should be fine, but worst comes to worse you can tweak them to look more like their parents and not grandparents.
  • They do not share genetics, no. Just family tree. You Wil not be able to see the biolohical family though
  • Also, if you're interested in adoption, while it's available in the base game of Sims you might be interested in one of Little Ms Sam's mods too. I use it and it's really fun. It's a foster home mod where you can register your Sims as being foster parents and you get notifications when kids need homes and then you can help find adoptive parents for them or adopt them yourself and stuff after they lived with you for a bit.
  • How cool would it be if you could give your own kids up for adoption, to sims in the world. See a sim walking around one day and wonder, was it you? Lol

You kind of can with MCCC. If you don't take care of an infant you can set it so that instead of being taken away by Social Services, it gets adopted by another family. Then you can go and look at all the houses and find out which family your child was adopted into. And it will live in your world with a different family
