I'm currently doing a challenge where I build Newcrest, but I need ideas on how I'm going to build it. Any suggestions?

I turned my Newcrest into a Spellcaster neighborhood. I don't really build, but I like to download from the gallery. I have all kinds of quirky and whimsical residences, plus a magic shop, magic library, huge museum, and themed bars, restaurants and park. It really spices up the area and makes it fun to play in.If magic isn't your thing, some other themes could be:~ A resort and tourist town with spas, rental homes, shops, parks, restaurants and museums.~ 1950s retro neighborhood with a bowling alley, ice skating rink, mid-century designs, university hangouts, recreation centers, library, wedding venue and book stores.~ An Alien town with ultra-modern/sci-fi designs, bright colors, glowing lights, and science and high tech, with flashy night clubs, a science center with robotics, and community center with eco-activities.~ Color-coordinated themed neighborhood sections that each represent a different season and activities to match. For example, the Summer neighborhood might be blues and yellows with a pool lot and a park with water activitieand s, while the spring area might be greens and purples with a public garden and open outdoor market.~ If you like Occults, have each section dedicated to different Occult territories; the Vampires in one area, Werewolves in another, Spellcasters in another, as if they are having territory wars. Add a "ghost town" section of community lots with the Spooky trait and a graveyard.~ Have neighborhood sections dedicated to different cultures, including a restaurant in each that specializes in that culture's foods. I tried to fill my Newcrest with one of each type of important community Lot so that when I am playing if I want to take a sim to, say, a museum and their own world doesn't have one I know that I can find one in Newcrest without having to try and track down another location! And my 'park' there is actually a multi-story career venue for story-telling, which has offices for business, lawyers, techies etc, a basement for criminals, a restaurant where chefs can practice their skills, an artists room etc - this is where my sims meet up with their work colleagues in their GT clubs.

Perhaps you could divide it up into different sections, such as an area with residential builds, another with community lots such as a gym, library, spa, another with food and drinks such as a restaurant, bar, nightclub, lounge, cafe then another section with a park. It depends on though how you like to play the game, and which types of lots you like to have in your game.I hope that your Newcrest challenge goes well 🙂

After we got Strangerville, I created the five lots on the right to my version of the "painted ladies" of San Francisco. I was planning on doing the whole neighborhood but lost my save when we were forced to swap over to the EA app. Currently, I'm trying to create a row of NYC brownstone apartment buildings, only 3 or 4 apartments max.

This way I don't have to do the science career over and over again just to get all those supplies. I have recently added ambrosia to the store.

I always put all those things that don't have a spot, like restaurants , Photo studios from the Moschino set, bowling lanes and spas. Then I add in houses and tiny homes that I have built myself. Anything that doesn't have a spot goes there.
I also added a shop where I have all kinds of elixers and potions for sale and everything including the cloning machine from the 'Get To Work' pack. This way I don't have to do the science career over and over again just to get all those supplies. I have recently added ambrosia to the store.

SimmingalI didn't think I liked large lots either, but one thing I learned renovating the My Duplantier Dwelling (you're prompted to dowload it from the Gallery with Paranormal Stuff) is you can build small on large lots. I'm not as comfortable with landscaping, but if you want to practice I'd recommend downloading large lots from the Gallery and renovating or deleting the house - keeping the landscaping to give yourself some parameters. And play with it.

Okay, lemme break it down now; the resto up top is Burger Time, next to it is a Starbucks express. Tri-trailerhome lot, dog park, thrift store made out of an abandonned drive in theater, an awesome find from the gallery.
Cabaret Republiqe Lounge, it could be a hotel or be apartement.... idk ! The condo tower next to it i think its called New Crest town apartments. Funkytown bowling (bar). Big house mansion from get famous (which i no longer use that pack but i took the best house put it there)... found a matching big house to go next to it (plateau place). The corner lot is actually a remodel of the store from Magnolia place, it fitted well with the trail. As do that row of houses, which made for a very middle class neighbourhood, i found all mid sized houses with cool backyards so neighbours and walkers can blend in. the 40x20 Pool Deck house i actually changed the pool for a ice rink.
If you have to build houses one by one good luck. But if you are looking to mix and match from the gallery most of em there are in my gallery ea.id; Le_Slacker

That is an excellent idea. Landscaping isn't exactly my strong point. But, what I've learned from becoming a cake decorator is I used the magazines from Wilton, to help me learn how to design a cake. So, I'm using pictures of houses from magazines, primarily, to learn how to create a great yard, too. Curb-appeal is so important. And one day, I'll take off the training wheels and just let myself go. LOL

My Newcrest centers around family gameplay. I have two residential neighborhoods and the community lot area. The community lots consists of the following builds:
Newcrest Cafe: The local coffee shop with an area in the back for reading.
Brunch On Us: The local restaurant that serves the best breakfast in town.
Arcade: This is a hangout spot that my teens use often.
Newcrest Daycare: This is for my families with infants and toddlers. Great spot for toddler and infant parties.
Hoping for a new fun community lot that centers around something for my Sims to do together before I decide what to place in the empty spot next to the daycare.

You could use a specific real-life location (state, country, etc.) for inspiration.
I like to use Newcrest as a downtown area for restaurants, police stations, business, retail etc.
Syd Mac did a really cool build challenge in Newcrest. Each lot increased in price and she created this gorgeous world called Bloomcrest with characters and lore. You can find it on Youtube.
Inspired by Syd Mac, I started telling a story build by build where each lot held clues about the characters of that story throughout their lifespan.
