According to myth the first Lilith was Adam's first wife, built like him directly by God but she was too strong willed, wanted to be treated as Adam's equal so Adam complained, and God threw her into hell and created Eve from Adam's rib so she would always owe her existence to Adam instead of being his equal.
SO basically Lilith became a demon queen according to the myth, while others argue she was treated unfairly and deserved no punishment whatsoever.

The myth is based by old Hebrew bible, also why Daniel and Mary Sue named their twins, the canon says they were surprised to have twins, so the first born had the name based of an angel, and the second one, by a demon. :)
Keep in mind tho that Lilith was strong willed enough to be a demon queen, not a mere servant nor a tortured soul. So there's that, at least.
