I live for the DLC. I can't possibly imagine my game without Crystal Creations, Cottage Living, Realm of Magic and Home Chef Hustle (to name ONLY a few). And adding new DLC gets me all giddy every time. Even if it's just a kit here and there to hold me over until the next sale.
But! I won't touch mods. From reading about all the issues that come with broken mods etc. it's like stuff that nightmares are made of.
I can live with the nuisance bugs that come with DLC, but not the horror bugs that come with mods. I love my game way too much to do that to myself.
