Are Mods safe?

I've seen a lot of creativity with the usage of mods. I have been hesitant to use them because I've had a lot of stuff hit my computer in the last few years with various things I thought were safe to use for different games & programs. If it's not ok for me to post this, please let me know. Can someone give me some guidelines on using mods? Any sites that are safe that have mods? Are they easy to install / use? Would I have to have the optimum protection to download and use them? I realize some would greatly enhance gameplay, I just don't want to destroy my fairly new computers. Thanks!!! (I'm using Sims 4)

  • Other than the obvious, making sure something is not infected with a virus, then I would say yes.

The way Sims4 is designed, if a mod causes problems, all you have to do is delete it if it's the culprit. I am quite impressed at how the dev team for Sims4 made mods a separate add-on rather than having a program that changes the base-code itself.

For example, I have a mod that makes eating and drinking a bit faster in-game. It doesn't change the base-code, just with the mod overrides it while the mod is in the mod folder. If anything messed up, all I have to do is remove it.

As for CC, if it stops working for whatever reason, then it can be deleted. Like if it's missing a mesh for the texture of a shirt, then it won't ruin anything in the game, just have something weird on-screen for that particular shirt until it's disabled or deleted. ;)
