I think I’ve only had one couple divorce in my game, and it was a long time ago so I honestly don’t remember what I did. If I have children that live with only one parent, then I make sure they spend some time with the other parent (unless it’s part of a story that they don’t). The way single parents are handled in my game varies quite a bit, really depends on the story line they have.
