Are the grades in High School random?

I don't understand how the grading works in High School. I had one Sim who attended all her classes, aced her tests, she was head of the cheer leading squad, etc.. Even though she had all "A"'s in school, she could not graduate early. Then on exam days, she started becoming obsessed with the sink. She either needed a drink of water, or she needed to wash her hands so she kept getting up in the middle of the test to go to the bathroom. I had to carefully watch her actions and quickly put the game on hold while I cancelled her trip to the restroom and keep her focused on the test. The action would pop up every 3-5 seconds and it was so hard keeping her at task. Due to my diligence, she still did well in the test, but did not ace it, like she had in the past. Then one time she was talking to the principal, she was one minute late for class and was expelled for misbehavior. I had to go back to a previous save in order to prevent this misdeed. I had wanted her to graduate early so that she could attend college while still a teenager, but it seemed the game was against this. The only way I could achieve this goal was through cheats.

Had another family with kids from different parents, living in the same house who struck up a romantic relationship. They never did their homework, never went to career day, and spent their Friday exam times and most of their class times getting overly romantic in the showers. They were horrible students, but maintained their grades of "C". I had one drop out, but the other I aged up and he not only got to attend graduation, but also won a science award. He only has one point each in logic and handiness, and he has no rocket science skill at all, so how could he win an award?

So, there seems to be no logic to the high school grading system. This is very frustrating.

I can't even get an A I'm doing homework, extra credit, extra extra credit (overachiever trait.) Studying for exams and still can't bump up my grade like...
  • I had to send my Sims to class by themselves for the grade to change, once you have the tick that shows they are supposed to get a promotion to the next grade, try sending them alone like we used to.

Sounds like she had a cheat sheet in the bathroom and he was the science teacher's favourite :D

But I really hope that they fix this, it really sounds like a bug.

Curious is your sim doing extra credit work as well that has all A's too? What I have one over achiever doing and she'd gotten the pop up.

A sim I didn't really maintain with their actions managed to maintain their C average for awhile when they went to class on their own and took notes without doing any homework in-between. After awhile they kinda started skipping class now and again and getting caught by the principal which make their grade tank to the point where they were a F student and got booted from school. It's realllly difficult to get that grade up after re-enrolling and not getting expelled again. Had to have her do make-up homework and regular homework plus multiple projects. It's really unforgiving. :#
  • You're not alone. I gave my Sims an A since I had them quit school for the two week summer break. They resumed and all of the school aged kids in that household, including Erik, had an F. Face/palm So, I used MCCC to give them the grades they deserved. Due to my storyline, these kids did much of their schooling on the planet Vulcan. In fact, the Teens in the family already finished high school, but in the Sim Realm, they still had to go to high school. Upon aging up, they would graduate, early, if need be.

I'm thinking because both Erik and his younger brother Joey have As, that's why they keep being approached to graduate early. I clicked on it once then realized the only way out to resume school was to exit w/o saving. So I did. In fact, I rolled back a save since their beginning was so far less than stellar I was concerned. Second time around I made certain Erik introduced himself to the Principal and ask about his new school.

By the way things are going in your game, I would have to agree, it appears random.
