Are the Whims Gone?

Is it a glitch in the game or what? I started my game today for the first time in a while. I updated it, downloaded a couple new packs and went to play and my Sim hasn't had a whim at all. Is that strange? Did they go away? Or is it a glitch in the system or what's going on?

There’s a new “Show Whims” option in the Gameplay Options menu that allows you to enable or disable whims… at your whim.

  • Oh ok, did not know that. I'll have to go look when I play again. I like the whim option. It gives me something to do when I don't know what to have my Sim do, lol.

  • Mine must be on by default. Which is good. I use them to my Sims' advantage.
  • ? I never pay attention to them, about the only reward I use anyway is "observant" for my cops. Those trait rewards always felt cheaty to me, which is totally hypocritical, cause I use cheats a lot

Whims should be on by default. The opposite makes absolutely no sense.

Even thinking about new players, it's nonsensical for them be turned off at the start of the game. Lots of players will probably gloss over the option and never even play with whims. Way to make a dumbed down feature from TS2 and TS3 even more ignorable. You'd think devs would want people to play with it.
  • Thanks for asking this. I was starting to wonder if I misremembered whims in Sims 4 and was mixing them up with something from Sims 3. I have no clue why they’d default to hiding whims???
  • @Wylemite1986, be advised, the option is under Game Options->Gameplay, named "Show whims" over on the bottom right. It is NOT to enable/disable the whims. Whims are always enabled....it just toggles whether or not you can actually see what they are. :)
  • @Stormkeep so, if I turn off the whims, my sims will still be able to rack up reward points as they randomly satisfy them?
  • @sunblond, yep! albeit, really slowly because they will often get stuck on things you just probably won't do for a long time. Like the "buy a pool" one, I mean, if you have one already especially, that one could sit forever if you can't see that it is there.
