Are there certain things you do when starting a new game?

I just got a new laptop and I'm eager to start over on my game. Usually, when I start a new game I will add some new buildings from the gallery like some cool gyms, spas, clubs and places for my sims ...

Delete Baby Ariel and fill in Newcrest with restaurants and bowling alleys. I also get rid of all of the retail lots in Magnolia Promade since I hate that feature and never use it.
