Are there no builders that also thoroughly play in their creations?

Honestly I dont even see it as a cheat anymore...just as something that should of been added to the game as standard. I use it all the time both for clutter/decorations and basic building like moving a window or scooching a door so the frame isnt stuck in a wall. As long as you have the grid on and give your sims enough room then everything works fine.
