Are We Still Limited to 8 Sims per lot?

If the lot is merely a residential lot, is the limit still 8 Sims, be they human or animal? I ask, because it looks as though Erik is going to have to sell one, two or all three of his horses, in order for the twins to move into the Residential Rental they just bought. Sure would be nice, since horses (dogs and cats) take up these precious few slots if EA could find a way to expand the number of slots.

Please, and thank you, in advance.
  • I wish they'd increase it too, even with mods it's a bit of a pain! Back in sims 2 and 3 days it was much easier. I like to play big fmailies, but they alwasy end up running out of space.

I wanted Erik to be able to have horses, when that pack was released. So, I used MCCC to increase the number of Sims in a family. I did a modest increase, mind you. He moved to their new place, first, bought the Mare and the Stallion, then the rest of the family moved in with them. Kayleigh and Erik had an oopsie baby just recently. In the meantime, For Rent was released. I happily built a reasonable facsimile of one of the apartment buildings we lived in. In this Apartment complex, they had eighty units, but they were divided up into four-unit buildings. That was perfect for me. I created something very similar, but added some common areas, which included a laundry room, a small gym, and on the other side of the ground floor, a party room, wherein a family could hold birthday parties or other such gatherings. I even created a space in the back of the building for Community socializing. Swing set for the kiddies, a splashpad area for those very hot days (right now in my game they're having a heatwave) a BBQ and some outdoor tables to dine upon. Would that the real place had been this nice. LOL Erik's second child was actually a set of identical twin girls. These young ladies have just aged up to YA and graduated university. They are all set to move into the building their father financed for them and have even asked their older brother to move in, too. I wanted him to be a tenant, but until I can get them to move over there, I placed a Murphy bed in the living room for him.

None of them officially live there at the moment.

I just did the math. Even if Erik sells all three horses, I won't be able to split the family via Manage Families from map mode. Nor unless I'm ready to say goodbye to baby Michael, who just became a toddler.

I suppose, I can have the girls sell the complex and maybe have their uncle Joe purchase it, instead. I just wanted a taste of this new pack, first hand, with the family I care about the most.

Are you asking if it's 8 sims per lot for a residential rental? Because the cap is still 8 sims per household, so one regular residential home can accomodate 8. But you can have a household in each rental unit, so for example, if you have a residential rental lot with 6 units, you can have 48 sims living on the lot.

Unfortunately 8 sims is still the total of sims and animals. I wish pets and horses wouldn't count towards this limit or increase the limit. With pets and horses, families are at their max very quickly.
  • Try playing a smaller household, enable cheats, click on the twins and see if you can select add to family. Then buy the building and move the twins out. You shouldn’t have to go into manage households and it won’t ruin relationships. If you don’t get the option with a family member, make a random sim, complete the above steps then keep or delete random sim. I’ve never had this issue so back up your save before you try. But I have used add to family/remove from family a lot and it only adds them to the household. It doesn’t alter the family tree in any way.

Thanks. Right now, my increased household, all living together, for the time equals twelve, including the three horses. You have given me an interesting thought, though. My goal was to have the twins move into the Residential Rental. In attempting to do this via MCCC, I got the one twin over to her three uncles' residence, but her twin went nowhere. Sob. I'm stuck. Breaking this unit apart, really breaks them apart. They lost two human Sims. Kept the three horses, mind you, but lost twin B and the toddler. Oh, well. so much for that idea.

Which cheat would that be, by chance? Do you mean testingcheats true? So, you're suggesting I had the right idea by selecting their uncles' household, but I need to have one of the three ask the girls to 'add to family'. Sounds like a workaround for the workaround. :) I had to do a workaround, when Horses came. Erik's family was already at max. I managed to have him move into the new lot, by splitting him off from the family. He purchased the first two horses and then the rest of his family moved in. However, they now sit at twelve Sims. Horses mated and had a filly, who is just now grown. And there was still a spot left, so the game decided woohoo meant try for baby. :open_mouth:

Thank you, I have already backed up my game. Did so yesterday when I decided it was time to get the girls to their new property. I guess I can have them sell it, then follow what you suggest. Thank you so much!
