It was hard to choose an answer here! I loved TS2 & 3 for the gameplay, but I'm such a graphics snob that I keep going back to TS4. Don't get me wrong, it's great for building, and I find don't need a lot of CC for CAS (my computer is grateful), but I just wish the sims themselves were more interesting. On the assumption that maxis have learnt from past experiences, and don't try another Olympus, S5 may have a better base game (starting with toddlers and pools) and the capability to code expanded gameplay. With that and how much technology has changed, I'm keen to see how the sims team will handle S5.
However, new sims games are always too expensive for me to buy right away (I waited until Uni for S3, and just before the toddler patch for S4) so I'm hoping S4 will keep me occupied until then. I'm also a little tired of waiting for the same expansions, as S4's dev cycle really feels so much longer. I guess my answer is a mix between if sims 4 gets a traits/emotions overhaul sometime this year, I'll be perfectly happy with it, but if not, I think I'll be ready to move on.
