Dropping XP support probably wouldn't make much difference unless they dropped 32bit support entirely in favour of 64bit, but there's still quite a lot of 32bit windows 7 computers out there. One of the main differences between the two is how much memory programs can use - 32bit only has 4gb available, 64bit has practically unlimited memory (well, vastly more than you can physically install in any current home computer). Many games just stick with 32bit for maximum compatibility, while others have 32 and 64bit versions, but the thing is the 64bit versions are still the same game, so they can't just go using lots more memory and stuff in them if they can't also do the same tasks in the limited 32bit environment, as then they'd become two different games. So, unless they make it 64bit only, it's going to be living in the constraints of a 32bit environment anyway, which is little different between XP or Windows 7 (32bit), so they might as well support XP for as long as 32bit support is needed. Personally, I wouldn't mind developers pulling the plug on 32bit finally, I've not used it in many years. However, I do have sympathy for all the teenagers who rely on hand-me-down computers that are getting a bit fossilised at the corners, and the developers have to work out the best market for their software and make it to match the computers their audience own.
