Bagged Lunch Bug still in game?

So for those of you unfamiliar with this bug, if your sim has a bagged lunch in their inventory and then go to work they will leave work well before the end of their shift. This is a well known bug that has been around for quite awhile and I'm fairly confident that the devs are aware of because it's well documented in the forums, It's also feature breaking in that it makes bagged lunches pointless.

So with all that in mind I was shocked to discover that this latest patch hadn't fixed this issue, and not only that but Maxis appears to be releasing new content before fixing all the bugs that their last DLC added to the game. This is puzzling me because it makes absolutely no sense to do that. I'm wondering if my game didn't update correctly or something, can anyone confirm if they are still experiencing the bagged lunch bug in their games? If not I think I may have to uninstall and reinstall to get the actual fix from the patch.

If Maxis really is releasing new content on a broken game then I'd like to add my two cents by saying that I'd rather have a working game then the ability to get a tan or snorkel.

Thanks in advance

  • I can confirm the latest patch didn't fix this bug.

  • didn't know the bagged lunch was bugged although i think I've noticed my sims coming home early occasionally. i'll keep an eye out.

Give the developers a chance? How long has this game been out? Let's just give a sample of some of the bugs that have been in the game for over a year now.

    1) Action Queue's randomly resetting and canceling Queue'd actions (been around since launch)
    2) Queuing an action only to have your sim go unresponsive for multiple sim hours before finally getting around to what you asked them to do. (been around since launch)
    3) While moving a sim the sim will randomly disappear then reappear in their starting location, with their action queue reset because.... of course it resets.
    4) Tree limbs clipping through walls (this ones been in the game since launch as well)
    5) The game slows down to a crawl every time a sims emotion state changes, in a house with dozens of rooms each with different decorations and multiple sims moving around said house, this happens over and over and over... you get the idea.
    6) Not a bug but just god awful design to have the game speed revert to the lowest setting every time one of your sims in the household gets a call or text. In a house with 8 Sims this makes the game extremely difficult to play on anything other then the lowest speed setting. In the time it took me to write a single book, I had to speed the game up (not exaggerating) 12 times. I know I could silence the phone, but I shouldn't have to, and you'd think this would have been noticed in testing, unless of course they aren't testing their patches before release. I would have found that difficult to believe not that long ago, but I honestly think it's the case now.

So that's 5 bugs off the top of my head that have been in the game for 1+ years, and a design choice that REALLY points to the fact that Maxis is simply not trying to play test the patches before release. Give the developers a chance? I'd say they've had numerous chances. You asked if I worked, and yes I do, and I can say with absolute certainty that if my work performance was proportional to Maxis I would have been fired a very long time ago. To add insult to injury, instead of fixing the bugs they turn around and charge you $40 bucks for an expansion pack to a broken game. The game is getting more annoying then fun to play, so no ... I think I'm done giving the developers a chance, I'd say it's time to demand they take action to fix their game, and I think that demand is more then justified.

I can already see you blaming the game performance on my rig, or possibly mods. Let me put that to rest right now, my rig should be blowing the doors off this game, I'm well above system requirements, I don't use mods, and I've tested all the bugs above on a fresh install with a new game and I can confirm the issue is not with any of my saves, it's the game.

Is it possible that you are just a masochist and you enjoy dealing with all the bugs?

Tree limbs clipping thru walls is just the way it is. They didn't create objects to have interactivity and to bend away when being in contact with other items, so you just have to place the tree further away. :joy:
  • Just a quick update, this bug was finally fixed in July's patch (wasn't mentioned in the patch notes).

Thanks for letting us know. I haven't even tried to use the packed lunches in ages.
  • I don't have my Sims pack lunches for the Sims that work. Only have them pack for the school Sims. They always, without fail, come home with the packed lunch in their inventory, uneaten. I know it's uneaten because A.) They're hungry and B.) It spoils.
